Youth Choices
Nurturers of Love Youth Choice is a new nonprofit organization in the Houston area. Shyia Robertson the CEO and Founder started this organization because research shows there are many disparities in our community when it regards our children. Shyia Robertson has a Master's degree in Sociology and Human Services and is using her degrees for the betterment of the community. Shyia lost all of her nephews to either the judicial system, the streets, and death. Although she was unable to save her nephews from those experiences due to her living in another state at that time. She has vowed to help as many children as she can. She feels that she can make a difference in other children lives so they won't make the same mistakes. She and her team are currently working with foster families to help their foster children adjust to their new environment.
The Nurturers of Love organization is striving on changing the dynamics when it comes to our children. We want our youth to be seen as children first.
In the beginning stages of the youth juvenile justice system, the system operated to help and rehabilitate the children versus making them adult prisoner. In today’s era, it is a different story. Society views our children as thugs and animals. The Honorable Judge Julian Mack in 1909, who also had a hand in the juvenile justice creation. Stated, “that the system should treat juveniles as a wise and merciful father handles their own child”
