🍎✨ Celebrating The Exceptional Joy School Teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week! ✨🍎

As we exclusively serve students with learning differences, our teachers play a crucial role in guiding each student toward success in academics and life.

In addition to curriculum expertise, Joy School teachers must possess specific social aptitudes tailored to our student's needs:

✨listening closely
✨embracing differences
✨acknowledging strengths and weaknesses
✨celebrating progress over perfection

These qualities ensure every student feels deeply understood, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential in academic achievement and life skills.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our remarkable teachers for their unwavering dedication to nurturing the potential of every student! 📚💖

Garden to Classroom! 🌿🍽️

From planting seeds to watching them grow, our Lower School students have been learning about the slow journey from soil to plate by cultivating a garden on campus.

Last week was the time to take the next step! Mrs. Motal's students harvested the zucchini and some fresh herbs to bring into their classroom.

Once inside, Mrs. Motal fired up the electric skillet and demonstrated how to prepare a quick and nutritious snack - sauteed zucchini with onions, salt, pepper and herbs! 🥦🥕

Four-star reviews from everyone involved for both the yummy snack and the joy of learning through hands-on experiences!

At this year's Black History Month assembly, Joseph Dixon from the Young Audiences of Houston guided us through the captivating history and music of THE MARDI GRAS INDIANS.

Mardi Gras Indians are African American groups participating in a unique cultural tradition that originated in New Orleans in the late 19th century.

The tradition is believed to have evolved as a way for African Americans to pay homage to the Native American tribes who provided refuge and assistance to runaway slaves in Louisiana.

Mardi Gras Indians create elaborate costumes, often adorned with intricate beadwork, feathers, and other decorative elements, as a form of artistic expression and cultural pride.

What cultural heartbeat pulsates through the crowds during Mardi Gras, igniting spirits and inspiring movement?? THE MUSIC! Rhythmic chants, drumming, and call-and-response patterns reflect the influence of African and Native American musical traditions.

During Mardi Gras celebrations, Mardi Gras Indian tribes engage in these showdowns to showcase their elaborate costumes, intricate beadwork, and musical talents. These showdowns are friendly competitions where different tribes meet in the streets to display their artistry and craftsmanship and answer the burning question, "WHO IS THE PRETTIEST?"
