Peace out, Westview Summer Camp! Session one was a total blast, and we can’t wait to see our campers back in July. ✌️
Westview Lower Elementary camper John had a great idea to take the class on a nature walk to pick up trash to protect the Earth. The teachers, volunteers, and campers headed outdoors armed with gloves and garbage bags. The campers quickly got excited about the activity, and to quote our sweet friend, John, “We have to pick up our trash to keep the Earth safe!”
Westview campers take on some science fun with a perfect mix of mess and memories making elephant toothpaste. 🧪🐘✨
Wildlife on Wheels from the Houston Museum of Natural Science rolled up to Westview today for a Friday field trip. Campers were delighted to learn about, see, and even touch the creepy, crawly reptiles and amphibians.
Nothing like a splash day to beat the heat! Our young Westview campers had an awesome morning with outdoor sensory fun and running through the sprinklers.
Huge thank you to Funtastik Labs for entertaining all our Westview campers today with a super-cool, interactive in-school field trip. Our campers were wowed with a science show full of chemical reactions and wacky experiments.
Exploring, creating, and learning—it’s all part of the fun for our youngest Westview campers! From counting candles to practicing letters and painting shapes, this week is full of playful discoveries.
Summer camp is in session, and we’ve missed our Westview friends!
We are so proud of Daniel in Middle School for being awarded the May Wonder Wall for COOPERATION. While Daniel has only been at Westview a short while, he’s become an important part of our middle school community. Daniel starts off each day by greeting his classmates and teachers with a cheery smile and a kind sense of humor. In class, Daniel works hard to complete his assignments, is never afraid to help his peers, and is always open to new ideas when working in groups or participating in class discussions. From attending camp for the first time to jumping in part way through the school’s drama production, Daniel has approached every challenge with a cheerful, go-getter attitude. We are so proud of you, Daniel!
Hooray for Lower Elementary student, Sebastian for winning May Wonder Wall for RESPONSIBILITY. Sebastian is a great caretaker of the Lower Elementary class pet, Jellybean. He makes sure she has everything she needs and is very gentle. He also helps his friends take care of their jobs around the classroom. He is always willing to clean up a bit extra or lead the group where they need to go. He always turns in his work on time and puts a great deal of effort into making sure it’s right and correcting it when he sees an error. We are so proud of how far he’s come. Strong work, Sebastian!
Congratulations to Ryan in Middle School for winning April Wonder Wall for COOPERATION. In his first year at Westview, Ryan has shown so much kindness and patience in his interactions with both peers and teachers. His confidence and work ethic have also grown a lot. Every day, Ryan comes to class with a positive attitude and is ready to give his best. He is flexible and helpful when working with peers. During the many play practices, Ryan was consistently patient and attentive. He would choose a quiet activity while waiting for his cues and was always willing to roll with constructive feedback as middle school worked hard to make the play as amazing as possible. Way to go, Ryan!
No way we are as excited as our Kindergarten friend Genny for winning the April Wonder Wall award for EMPATHY. Genny is such a joy to be around! She brings so much laughter and warmth to Westview. She joined us after Thanksgiving, and it felt like she had always been a part of our group. Genny is not only funny, kind, and generous, but she is also incredibly supportive and always there to lend a helping hand. Her positive attitude and infectious enthusiasm are greatly appreciated by her peers and staff. And that smile of hers? It truly brightens up our day. We are so grateful to have Genny at Westview!
Congratulations to Nelson Armstrong, Music Teacher, for being awarded the 2023-2024 Jane Stewart Award of Excellence.
Nelson engages with and makes individual connections with students in a truly magical way. Students in Nelson’s classroom are always engaged in their learning and are professional, respectful, and kind. It is important to note that Nelson also makes magical things happen beyond the classroom. A friend to all, one colleague suggested that the things that Nelson can do help to make Westview “the best little school on the planet.” With tremendous admiration, we are pleased and proud to
honor Nelson as this year’s award winner.
The Jane Stewart Award of Excellence is awarded to a teacher who provides exemplary service to the students and the school and has shown exceptional dedication, loyalty, passion, and skill in helping students achieve their goals.
Congratulations to Jermaine Buford, Middle School Instructional Assistant, for being awarded the 2023-2024 Joel Stewart Award of Excellence.
This year, Jermaine has gone above and beyond what is expected in his role to support students. He demonstrates a deep sense of caring for each student’s well-being and has been instrumental in designing engaging experiences for our students. Jermaine truly cares about each student’s well-being and provides the support our students need to succeed. With great appreciation and gratitude, we are overjoyed to name Jermaine as this year’s award recipient.
The Joel Stewart Award of Excellence is awarded each year to the teaching assistant who exemplifies the attributes of commitment, care, loyalty, and helpfulness and has a strong work ethic and initiative in supporting both teachers and students in ways that go above and beyond.
Congratulations to Robert Velazquez, Director of Facilities, for being awarded the 2023-2024 Donna Marshall Award of Excellence.
Robert was described by his colleagues as a “perfect fit for Westview.” He is always prepared, flexible, calm, professional, friendly, and willing to help. Robert is an excellent communicator known for addressing small issues before they become bigger ones. The unusual challenges of the last week confirmed this person’s vitally important role in our daily operations. In his short tenure at Westview, he has tackled many projects that have made our school and campus better and safer. Robert deserves to be recognized for his work on improving Westview, and we are delighted that he is the recipient of this year’s award.
The Donna Marshall Award of Excellence, first given in 2021, is awarded to a non-instructional staff member who makes tremendous contributions to the school and has shown exemplary dedication to the growth and success of The Westview School through support to administration, teachers, and students.
