Feeling awkward in Awkward Pose? Here are some helpful tips, to help make it a bit less awkward!
👉 Align the feet: A six-inch gap (about hip-width apart) and the feet exactly parallel to one another (not v-ing in or v-ing out). Focus on alignment to heel, ankle, and knee, ensuring they are facing forward toward the mirror.
👉 Keep the five fingers together and stretch the arms forward towards the mirror. Energize the arms to create counter-balance throughout the posture.
👉 Relax the face, and remember to breathe.
👉 Lower the hips, bringing thighs parallel to the floor. Hold.
👉 Rise back up.
👉 2nd round: With arms reaching forward, lift the heels, come onto your toes, then lower down, and hold.
👉 Rise and lower the heels.
👉 3rd round: With arms reaching forward, lift the heels, come onto the toes, bring the knees together, then lower down to hold.
👉 Rise, lower the heels, and return the arms to the side of the body.
After all three rounds of Awkward Pose, you'll feel it in your entire body, especially the abs! This is one of the postures that really makes you realize how much strength and stability your body has because of your solid core!

Just another set of abs - is that what's going through your head when we get to Savasana? Friends, your Savasana is for rest and reset. It's your time to absorb all the work you've put in during class - not to sneak in more reps or disturb your neighbors.
Instead, go FULL OUT during class. Work those legs, arms, abs and then when you reach Savanasa press pause on your brain and your body. Trust us, you will feel incredible afterward!

What the heck does "activate your core" actually mean?
Let's start with what the core is first. It's WAY more than just the abs. The core includes the low back, hips, glutes, pelvic floor, and abdominals. So, when we say activate or engage the core, we're talking about that entire area. By squeezing - NOT clenching - these muscles, you're activating them.
The key is squeezing the muscles enough that you can still breathe through the movements. You should feel a tightening sensation when engaged but still be able to breathe normally.
Keep that in mind when you're in class, as well as in your daily activities. Core engagement is important in almost everything we do!

1️⃣ Preregister for your class online before class. Preregistering allows us to make sure there's space for each student who wants to attend class.
2️⃣ Arrive at least 15 minutes before class so we can welcome you and give you a studio tour.
3️⃣ Doors open 30 minutes before class, so there's lots of time to settle in before class begins.
Out of respect for our yogis, there is no late admittance to class.
