Please welcome Heidi Carter, LPC to ACC. We are excited for Heidi to join our team! She is currently accepting new clients. Please welcome Heidi to the ACC family! We are so happy you're here!

"I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Alabama. I attended Emmanuel College where I received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. I then attended the University of Alabama, Birmingham where I received my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults and the geriatric population. I have extensive knowledge in the areas of grief/bereavement and substance abuse issues. I have years of experience working with clients who have interpersonal relationship issues, self-esteem issues, anxiety and depression. Further, I have expertise working with clients who have a history of trauma and co-occurring disorders.

I am committed to providing support, guidance and empathy as my clients explore and resolve the roots of their concerns. I use an integrated therapeutic approach of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy and person centered modalities. I believe that each of my clients has the capacity to grow, and I collaborate with them in the healing process. It is through the support and safety of the therapeutic relationship that my clients feel empowered to make necessary changes that can improve the quality of their life and ease the burdens that they carry. I know that seeking therapy can be an intimidating experience, I am here to help and guide you in the process."

Please welcome our newest counselor to ACC- Layla Niemann, LICSW. We are so excited for her to be a part of the ACC family! Welcome Layla!

"Layla Niemann is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, Clinical Supervisor, and Professional Trainer. She earned her BA in Communication Arts at UAH in 2000 and earned her MSW at Alabama A & M University in 2011. Since starting out in the Social Services field in 2001, she has worked in the areas of Child Welfare, Child Forensic Interviewing, Hospice, Bereavement, Adoptions, and Geriatrics. Ms. Niemann enjoys weaving her myriad experiences into her clinical practice serving adults and children with special interest and training in treating PTSD, OCD, ADHD, Autism, and Sleep Disorders. Her approach is rooted in the belief that positive therapeutic relationships have the power to change individuals and the world around them. Ms. Niemann works diligently for racial justice, gender equality, and LGBTQ+ rights in her professional and personal life. She provides a neurodiversity-affirmative approach and utilizes empowerment strategies with all clients throughout treatment. Ms. Niemann is nationally certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She is trained in multiple therapy modalities including several targeted CBT-based modalities, Brainspotting, Mindfulness, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

Ms. Niemann believes the power of movement and the outdoors to be profoundly healing. The bilateral movement of walking is particularly useful combined with therapeutic conversation. This approach is a wonderful way to fastrack problem-solving, getting unstuck, or working through a complex personal problem. She began to notice the benefit of walking with her clients when working in assisted living facilities and skilled nursing homes. She has now expanded this practice to walking with clients in her private practice.

Ms. Niemann enjoys spending time in the outdoors with her family, volunteering with Huntsville Animal Services, playing music, backpacking, and running."

Please welcome our newest counselor to ACC- Jennifer Alford, LPC. We are so excited for her to be a part of the ACC family! Welcome!

"My counseling approach is holistic in nature, taking into account the many unique aspects and experiences of each of my clients. Your comfort and trust are the guiding principles of my therapeutic interactions. I value that the decision to come to therapy is not an easy one for most, and with that knowledge, I will strive to meet you where you are with compassion and unconditional positive-regard for all you are experiencing.

I have specialized training in EMDR, to address and help mitigate the impact of traumatic experiences. Additionally, I have experience in working with clients who experience anxiety, depression, relationship/family conflict, self-esteem and self-assertiveness needs, stress, grief, phase of life circumstances and gender identity.

It is my belief that everyone is worthy and deserving of a happy, fulfilling life. I welcome the opportunity to help and guide you on the path to creating that for yourself."

We are so happy she's here! Welcome to the ACC family, Jennifer!
