Journalists covering the shooting at Apalachee High School should follow the SPJ Code of Ethics. As information is released from this tragic event, remember to take responsibility for the accuracy of your work and verify the information before publishing it. Journalists should remember that neither speed nor format excuses inaccuracy.
Journalists must minimize harm. They should "show compassion for those who may be affected by news coverage" and "avoid pandering to lurid curiosity, even if others do."
