The ASUN Conference held its annual Sportsmedicine meeting in Charlotte, NC today. UNF was asked to participate in a "Road to Recovery" presentation discussing Nutrition, Performance Recovery, and Sleep in athletes.
UNF was represented by Brian Bert and Shyam Paryani, MD, MHA, FACHE. Thanks to Ann Toy for chairing the session as well as Rachel Murray and Kim Eskola for their presentations.
The University of North Florida's MedNexus is launching three new programs in Palm Coast, Flagler County, to bolster healthcare education and meet workforce demands.
Palm Coast Mayor David Alfin hailed the move as pivotal for the city, noting its potential to enrich educational opportunities and address healthcare sector needs.
The new programs include:

โช๏ธ Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN โ BSN) online program.

We're thrilled to announce that UNF Brooks College of Health received a generous $12,000 donation from Vicar's Landing to support Meals on Wings in fighting food insecurity. Huge thanks to all involved in the Charity Classic! ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ๐
Exciting news out of Vicar's Landing this afternoon as the UNF Brooks College of Health was presented with a $12,000 check to help Meals on Wings battle food insecurity.
This April, the Vicar's Landing Foundation hosted Drives & D***s, their 18th Annual Charity Classic at the Yards at Sawgrass Players Club, where participants could choose to play in either the Charity Classic Golf or Pickleball Tournaments.
All funds raised at the event were used to support communities charities serving St. Johns County seniors. This included Lend an Ear Outreach, Pie in the Sky and the University of North Florida's own Meals on Wings.
"For 18 years, the Charity Classic has reflected our profound dedication to making a positive impact for seniors throughout our county," said Bruce Vorsanger, Vicarโs Landing Chief Development Officer.
Presenting the check today were Vorsanger and Tom Nicholson, Partner/COO of Amada Senior Care, title sponsor for the Charity Classic. Accepting the check on behalf of the UNF Brooks College of Health were Interim Dean, Dr. Mei Zhao, Community Engagement Director, Dr. Shyam Paryani, MD, MHA, FACHE ('02), Associate Director of the UNF Center for Nutrition and Food Security, Meghan Niemczyk ('13) and her Meals on Wings staff.
During Nurses Week 2024, Dr. Valerie Morrison, Director of UNF Student Health Services, proudly participated in the Nurses Week Proclamation by the Putnam Board of County Commissioners. ๐ฅ Watch the inspiring video highlight on YouTube (22 minutes in). UNF Health Administration is proud to announce Bryan Murphy RN, MHA, MRMC is the the 2024 Distinguished Health Administration Alumnus.
Bryan Murphy is a Jacksonville native with a passion for serving people. In
2009, Bryan received his BSN at the University of North Florida. Since then, he has had the opportunity to work in several nursing capacities, including Nurse Technician, Rehabilitation Nurse, Employee Health Nurse, and Nurse Liaison. In 2016, he returned to UNF receiving his Master's in Health Administration. This education provided additional opportunities for growth within Brooks Rehabilitation. Bryan enjoyed serving as Nurse Liaison Manager and Director of
Admissions. He helped start the new Brooks Bartram Hospital and is now the Vice President and Administrator of the new Brooks Rehab Hospital at Bartram Campus. After 15 years, Bryan still enjoys his work at Brooks, increasing access for those needing rehabilitation services following trauma. Bryan recently finished a two-year term as President of Northeast Florida Association for Rehabilitation Nurses, currently serves on the Board of Directorโs for Gabriel House of Care and is Chair of the Mentorship on the UNF MHA Alumni Association Board. He is the consummate alumnus always willing to help students and faculty connect with the community.
The award was announced at the Health Administration Banquet by fellow alumnus James London, MHA, FACHE and Interim Dean Mei Zhao.

Rob Haley PhD, MBA, MHS and Interim Dean Mei Zhao welcomed the faculty, graduates, students, alumni and guests. Kay Thiemann, MBA, FACHE awarded the HALI Leadership awards to Sarah Sprowell and Neika Saint-Hilaire. LaRee Moody, DHA, RN presented the AUPHA McGraw Scholarships to Aishea Aliwalas, Savannah Summers and Cody Yates. D. Rob Haley PhD, MBA, MHS presented the AUPHA McGraw Scholarships to Samira Abdul and Emily Van Hook, MHAc . Andrew Lepkoske and John Wagner, MHA presented the Alumni Board Award to Peyton Pickett. Coach MattDriscoll joined group to help recognize Dorian James as the most outstanding EMHA student and HALI Leadership Award.

Dorian James, UNF basketball player and EMHA Student was invited to present to the UNF Board of Trustees. Dorian played for six seasons on the UNF Basketball team and set many records including most games played by any UNF athlete, over 500 career points and rebounds, ASUN All-Academic Team, and many other accomplishments. He is also recognized as the Most Outstanding EMHA Student. He led the Athletic Monitoring Project that was initiated with the UNF Basketball team and has presented several papers at the UNF research conferences. B*H is proud to recognize Dorian for all his accomplishments and wish him well on his new adventure as a healthcare administrator.
UNF held its annual Research week and hilghilghted faculty research at the Scholars Transforming Academic Symposium (STARS). B*H faculty Alireza Jahan-mihan was recognized for being an author within the past five years of a high-impact journal article as measured by total Web of Science citations. Raine Osborne was recognized for being awarded funding on a first submission. The awards were presented by President Moez Limayem and John Kantner. Interim Dean Mei Zhao attended to help recognize our faculty. Congratulations to all of the faculty who received the STARS awards.
