January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month – an important time to reflect on the resilience of trafficking survivors and recognize the efforts of those who work tirelessly to prevent and eliminate this inhumane and devastating form of abuse and exploitation.

This month, the YWCA Rock County along with community partners, advocates, and individuals are raising awareness of this crime, recognizing that everyone of us can play an important role in the fight against human trafficking.

A friendly reminder that if Janesville and/or Milton School Districts close tomorrow (1/9), the YWCA Child Care Programs (all sites) will also be closed. Stay tuned to our page for updates and more information.

Kwanzaa is an annual celebration of African-American culture from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a communal feast called Karamu, usually on the sixth day.

It was created by activist Maulana Karenga, based on African harvest festival traditions from various parts of West and Southeast Africa. Kwanzaa was first celebrated in 1966. Estimates of how many Americans celebrate Kwanzaa have varied in recent years, from as few as a half a million to as many as 12 million.

We will learn more about how Kwanzaa came to be and how it can enrich our holiday season. Please bring your questions and experiences to our conversation.
