Children’s Wisconsin takes a multifaceted approach to reach Wisconsin’s most at-risk children — whether that be through child advocacy, child and family counseling, foster care and adoption services, family resource centers, better access to primary care, or initiatives focused on family support and preservation. First and foremost: EMPOWER children with "I CAN!" confidence.
It requires giving children the right to struggle and ask for help when they need it.
It requires not doing the whole task for children, but rather: engage in TEAMWORK when they ask for help. Use THEIR hands and their brain as part of the solution.
It requires an understanding of what skills are developed through the processes of the every day.
It requires meaningful relationships.
It requires patience.
It requires a flexible schedule that allows time for children to work through various challenges without the pressure of "table time".
It requires an emtionally healthy environment where each child feels loved and belonging.
It requires meeting each child's needs.
It requires life experiences.
It does NOT require an adult-driven curriculum.

When’s the best time to start getting ready for back-to-school? All summer long! Adding a few creative, outdoor and social activities goes a long way to helping kids feel prepared and confident for that first day of school.
Challenging behavior is often not in children’s control. It is more accurate and helpful to understand this behavior as a sign that children cannot handle their big emotions (e.g., mad, sad, sacred). When they feel overwhelmed, their emotions are getting the best of them. It won't be long now before students will need to get back into the swing of attending classes here in the School District of Janesville! And while we hope everyone has had a wonderful summer so far, we are more than a little eager to see those smiling faces return to our buildings!
Some of the things you might want to be thinking about with just more than two weeks remaining are:
-- Buying Back to School clothing
-- Ordering/purchasing school supplies
-- Health checks for children (dental, vision and health exams)
-- Start updating the family calendar with early-year events
-- Getting students back on sleep and eating schedules
-- Filling out any forms needed before the start of school
We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, Sept. 3 (check with your student's home school for "Ready, Set, Goal" events, open houses and other preparation events before that date.)
But for now -- enjoy the rest of your summer!

By writing themselves a letter, kids can document what they loved about school — and then if there are any back-to-school jitters, that letter can start a conversation with you about hopes, dreams and addressing any fears.
