A wonderful article from the Daily Dunklin Democrat featuring longtime James Kahn Department Store employee Mrs. Edna Penny.
dddnews.com She worked in almost every area of James Kahn's for 38 years, from 1957 until she retired in 1995, just three years before the iconic store closed its doors for the last time. Store On The Corner
Hi FB Friends,
I have something fun that I'd like to share with you related to James Kahn Department Store. As music has been my lifelong passion, over the past year I've been writing songs in order to build a songwriter's catalog. This with the goal of one day obtaining a publishing deal, song placements and occasionally performing live as a songwriter.
One of the first songs that I wrote is called "Store On The Corner" and was inspired by James Kahn Department Store. I've posted the demo of this song, which is performed by the talented LA based singer Jodi Siegel, and produced and arranged by Jimmy Zavala for whom I'm grateful for his involvement and support of my music.
Related, I also had the opportunity to perform the song at this years Copperocity Classic in Kennett. The event was held in the old JKDS building, now the beautiful Opera House. It was an honor to be able to perform the song among family and friends in the location from which it was inspired. I'll be posting a video of that performance soon.
This song is for my family and all of those in and from the amazing community of Kennett, MO and the surrounding area that were a part of James Kahn Department Store during it's 73 years on the square.
Thanks for listening!
Sincerely,
Mike Astrachan
