Kent State recently marked a milestone with the ninth commencement ceremony of its American Academy program in Brazil.
The dual-enrollment initiative, launched in July 2018, is a collaboration between Kent State and the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR) in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. The American Academy offers Brazilian students a chance to complete their first two years of undergraduate study at the PUCPR campus while taking Kent State classes taught in English by Kent State faculty. Students earn credit from both universities simultaneously.

A classroom assignment at Kent State sparked a successful business venture for former Golden Flashes football star Will Matthews.
Matthews, who helped Kent State win its first bowl game in 2019, turned his entrepreneurial studies project into reality with the Southern Comfort Kitchen food truck in 2019. The business has since expanded to include a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Akron's Highland Square, which opened two years ago.

Kent State and Notre Dame College joined forces through a Teach-Out program to streamline the transfer process and create a seamless pathway to higher education.
This partnership promises to open doors for Notre Dame College students seeking to further their academic pursuits and achieve their career goals. When Notre Dame College announced in March 2024 that it would be closing for financial reasons, biology major Jakob Arnold found the doors at Kent State to be wide open and welcoming, and an accessible transfer process followed.
“Kent State has a big, diverse population of people which is one of the reasons why I chose Kent State,” Arnold said. “It will be a great place to immerse myself in different cultures. I like to step out of my comfort zone and meet new people.”

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg visited Kent State University this week, touring the Kent State College of Aeronautics and Engineering and telling students that “the future of aviation leadership is in your hands.” He was accompanied by U.S. Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, a 2007 Kent State alumna, whose 13th Congressional District includes Kent State’s airport.
Secretary Buttigieg and Rep. Sykes also toured the May 4 Visitors Center, stopping at memorials in the parking lot marking the places where students were killed on May 4, 1970, before learning more about the facility in a moving student-guided tour. https://bit.ly/3RItZNQ
