Former KSU professor Charles Basham was recently featured in Ideastream's segment "Applause" about his show "Continuum," currently on display in the KSU Galleries.

In this lecture titled "Process is the Metaphor," Javani will discuss their practice, current and previous projects, which explores the landscapes of biography, surreality, fantasy, and madness in the intersection of identities.

Students may submit grant proposals in one of two categories, New Art Category and New Arts Venture Category. Grant award packages include a$500 grant to pursue the proposal, an official announcement from the College of the Arts and a 60-minute session with a mentor.

Jerrilyn Duckworth is a multi-hyphenate creative (costume, hair and makeup design) in the theatrical space. Bridging the Gap was founded in 2019 and in 2020, Jerrilyn was appointed Vice-Chair of Hair and Makeup for the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT).

TRAFFIC BOX ART SPOTLIGHT:
Thank you to local artist Billie Moore. Her traffic box art is located at the corner of Baumberger Road and Graham Road.

Billie is a Stow resident and retired art teacher who formerly worked for Hudson City Schools. Her love of color and design has inspired her to make art, primarily paintings. “Plants and flowers are merely vehicles of what I feel is important: growth, play, and invention. I love the discoveries that unfold on the canvas.”

Billie has a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Kent State University and a Master’s degree from Nova Southeast University.

📍”Traveling Stanzas” is now open in the KSU Downtown Gallery! 

This exhibit is presented in celebration of 40 years of the Wick Poetry Center at Kent State University and is curated by Annie Cyrus.

“Traveling Stanzas” runs Aug. 20 through Oct. 12, 2024. Admission is free and open to the public.

The School of Art is pleased to announce the hire of Dadisi Curtis Jr. as a visiting assistant professor of studio art for the 2024-25 academic year. Professor Curtis will be teaching in the print media and photography program.

The Ohio Arts Council (OAC) board has approved $22,704,702 in grants to support Ohio artists, nonprofits, arts and cultural organizations, students and educators, and public arts programming! Approved during the board’s July 24 meeting, these grants mark the largest single round of awards distributed to OAC funding applicants in the agency’s history.

KSU Downtown Gallery continues long history featuring art from the region First opening in 1997, the KSU Downtown Gallery has operated as a bridge between the city and the university, showcasing the work of local artists downtown for almost three decades.

"Ciao" from Florence! 👋

This summer, art history professors Shana Klein and Gustav Medicus taught courses at the Kent State Florence Institute in Florence, Italy. Highlights include gazing up at the Duomo of the Santa Maria del Fiore, visiting the Uffizi, and an Anselm Kiefer exhibition.

In preparation for her upcoming show "Sticks•Rocks•Leaves" in the KSU Downtown Gallery, we sat down with Cleveland artist Natalie Petrosky to learn more about her work.

At the end of the semester, art history students visited the Cleveland Museum of Art’s new exhibit “Africa and Byzantium.” The tour was led by curator of African Art Kristen Windmuller-Luna, and the trip was arranged by Dr. Joseph Underwood, Assocaiate Professor of African Art.

This past week, the Art Enrichment course celebrated its end of semester art show!

Throughout the semester, art education students led the Art Enrichment after school program, which provided the community with access to engaging art courses for grades K-8.
