🔥🔥11/21/23 Sauratown Mountain Fire Information Morning Update
Wildland firefighters held the Sauratown Mountain Fire to approximately 750 acres overnight and increased containment to 41% as of 9 a.m. Nov. 21. Percent containment represents sections of fire line that pose no escape risk without further action from firefighters.
N.C. Forest Service tractor plow units and crews made substantial progress overnight with fire line construction. Hand crews constructed a fire line from the ridgetop off Sauratown Mountain Road and were able to tie that line in with the dozer line on the eastern perimeter of the fire. Once that effort was completed, firefighting personnel conducted a successful strategic firing operation to consume unburned fuel between the containment lines and the fire’s perimeter. Hand crews and structural firefighters patrolled these areas overnight to ensure the fire did not cross control lines.
Roughly 60 personnel assisted with night operations, some of whom were dayshift crews that extended their operational period due to predicted gusty winds ahead of forecast precipitation for the overnight hours. Night operations reported rain over the fire at around 3 a.m. this morning. In total, approximately 150 personnel resources have supported this incident. Resources include N.C. Forest Service personnel, out-of-state resources, structural firefighters and support agencies.
Today, precipitation is expected to suspend suppression tactics for ground personnel. Firefighter safety remains a top priority as rainfall presents slip, trip and fall hazards, especially on wet, steep terrain.🔥🔥

The Piney Grove Fire and Rescue Department has been very busy this past week and weekend. In addition to our regular daily operations and calls for service, PGFRD assisted FCFD Airport Fire and WSFD in filling Aerial Firefighting Planes from the NC Forest Service and deployed several crews to the Sauratown Mountain Fire. Fortunately, the much-needed precipitation has aided in dampening conditions. As of now, all PGFRD units and personnel have been demobilized and returned home. The NCFS and Sauratown Fire Department continue to monitor the situation, and should the need arise, PGFRD stands ready to assist again.

🚒🚌 School Bus Safety Alert: Let's Keep Our Kids Safe! 🛑👦👧
Hey there, our wonderful community! Safety is our top priority, especially when it comes to our precious young learners. As the school year begins, let's come together to ensure our kids have a safe and smooth journey to and from school.
🔥 Our dedicated firefighters are teaming up with local schools to remind everyone about the importance of school bus safety. Here are a few essential tips to keep in mind:
Stop, Look, and Listen: When approaching a school bus, remember to stop a safe distance away and allow kids to get on or off safely. Look out for the flashing red lights and the stop sign that signals a complete stop.
Stay Patient: It might take a few extra moments for kids to get on or off the bus. Let's be patient and give them the time they need to cross the road safely.
Hands Off the Gas: When you see those flashing lights or the stop sign, it's time to stop completely. No exceptions. Let's protect our young pedestrians.
Teach Safety: Parents, caregivers, and educators, let's teach our kids about bus safety. Remind them to stay on the sidewalk, look both ways before crossing, and always wait for the driver's signal to cross the road.
Lead by Example: As responsible adults, we set the tone for our kids. By following the rules, we show them the importance of safety on the roads.
Let's make this school year a safe and wonderful one for our young learners.
Share this post, spread the word, and let's create a community that prioritizes the safety of our future leaders!
