This $5 Friday, let's continue highlighting the variety of dogs who need a Christmas miracle.

Aries and Kiro are both big black dogs, but their stories are so different.

Aries (left) comes to us from Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, where he was stressed about being leashed and re-kenneled. Wilco's director reached out to us for help and worked with us until we could take him in to a foster home. Even though they've been overcrowded, Wilco never threatened Aries's life or gave him a deadline; they kept working to find a safe way out of the shelter for him. Aries is in foster with one of our directors, and while he would prefer a home of his own where he didn't have to share the attention with lots of other dogs, he's thriving. Out of the shelter and with time to recover from the stress, he's still quirky but most of his issues have simply resolved.

Kiro, on the other hand, was never in a safe shelter. He was found with his brother Caloo huddled on the side of the road. With no safe shelter available, they were very fortunate that their finders knew where to turn for help. Kiro and Caloo get along great but they're not bonded; they can be adopted separately. They are big young shepherd mixes, a little shy but loving and playful with their friends. They are among the way too many dogs living at River Dog Ranch who need homes for the holidays!

In the meantime, we need to pay their bills. Right now, we have a donation match of $2500 toward our boarding bill at River Dog Ranch. When you buy raffle tickets or make a donation through PayPal, Venmo, or this post, mention River Dog Ranch and your donation will be matched! So far, we have $300 donated toward the $2500 match. Thank you to everyone who is helping!

We need a Christmas miracle.

Pictured: stray dogs, dumped dogs, dogs on chains, innocent puppies, misunderstood breeds, dogs on death row, dogs that are “too old”, dogs that are “too much”. Those were the stories for all of these dogs. Our mission is to make sure that’s not their future.

If you understand and share our belief that every dog deserves a chance, we need your help. We have a few people who have given, and are giving, everything they can—and sometimes more. When we keep giving more than we have and going into debt, it’s inevitable that we will hit a true breaking point - we are running on empty in terms of energy, money, and emotional resources.

We do this work because we value dogs’ lives, and we believe that there is enough compassion, and there are enough safe and loving homes, to give our dogs good lives. The adopters we have found are proof of all of this. Our volunteers are too.

We are begging for a Christmas Miracle. Austin Animal Center sent out a rescue plea for SEVEN dogs yesterday. In our current state, we can’t help any. People will beg us too. It will go against what we stand for to say no; but no is our only option.

If you read this post, especially if you’ve asked us to help a dog, please don’t scroll past and do nothing.

Here are the most critical areas we need help:

🔹We MUST find fosters and adopters, ESPECIALLY for our dogs in boarding.

https://linktr.ee/ffrptx

🔹We MUST raise funds to pay our bills. Please support our raffle: https://tinyurl.com/FFRP2023MiniRaffle

🔹We MUST reach as many people as possible. Please share our posts. Please become a champion of one of our adoptable dogs. Are you business that wants to sponsor a rescue? We need more followers and to scale our brand, because the need for our work is quickly outpacing our ability to help.

If you understand and share our belief that every dog deserves a chance, we need your help. We need a Christmas miracle.

Start your week off right with a raffle ticket purchase! Proceeds are used immediately to pay overdue bills, and you get to assign tickets to the prizes you want—like this gorgeous handmade quilt donated by Quilts to the Rescue. Our raffle ends December 17, in time to give a prize as a Christmas gift if you win.

We also have some practical prizes, like a $250 gift card to Leaf Landscape Supply to replace plants that didn’t make it through the summer heat and drought, and a $100 HEB gift card to make grocery shopping a little easier.

Finally, we have a $2500 match for donations toward boarding expenses at River Dog Ranch! Just add a note saying RDR or River Dog Ranch, and your raffle purchase will count toward that challenge! And follow this page. We’ll be back to dog and puppy updates next.

FYI:

An e-collar is a shock collar. (If you can’t tell from the context, as apparently some viewers can’t, we’re talking about the shorthand for electronic collar, not about the cone used after some medical procedures.)

An electronic collar is a shock collar.

A bark collar is a shock collar.

If you’re not willing to wear one yourself and hand that remote to someone else, then don’t put one on your dog.

And if you put one on a dog you adopted from us, you are violating your adoption agreement.

And to those who are more offended by our expression of anger at those who use these devices than they are about the harm caused by shock collars…bless your hearts. 🙃
