Never leave a pet unattended in a parked car when the temperature is near or above 70 degrees.

The temperature inside a car can soar past 100 degrees very quickly and temperatures above 110 degrees can be fatal in minutes.
Act immediately if you see a distressed animal in an unattended car.

Make sure outdoor pets always have access to shade and fresh clean water.
Do not use bowls made of metal as they will become extremely hot if left out in the sun. Take frequent water breaks if walking or jogging with your dog. If you leave your pet outdoors for an extended period, check to make sure they will have shaded areas all day. Asphalt and concrete heat up quickly. If it’s too hot to keep your hand on the pavement for 10 seconds, it is too hot for a dog’s paws.

Keep pets inside when temperatures exceed 90 degrees.
There will be days when the temperature skyrockets and it becomes too hot for pets to remain outside. Bring them indoors and keep them in a safe and secure place such as the basement, especially if your home is not air conditioned. Rising temperatures inside the home can be just as deadly as the outdoor heat.

*****Groom your pet regularly.
A pet’s coat is designed by nature to keep them cool during the summer. Consider taking your pet to a groomer for a trim or regularly brush their fur to remove any excess hair. However, do not shave your pet without first consulting a veterinarian, as this may result in overexposure to the sun and cause sunburn or other serious side effects.

**** UPDATE****

Dakota Gibson was apprehended in Adair County by law enforcement on 06/26/2024. He is in custody.

WANTED PERSON – DAKOTA WAYNE GIBSON

(Kirksville, MO) The Kirksville Police Department and other local law enforcement are seeking the public’s assistance in apprehending Dakota Wayne Gibson. Gibson currently has felony warrants for his arrest for Domestic Assault, Stealing, Resisting Arrest, 1st Degree Assault, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

Dakota Wayne Gibson is a white male, 30 years old, 5’6” tall, 180 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes. Gibson has the word “HONKY” tattooed on his chest and Browning deer head logo on his abdomen. His left arm is sleeved out with tattoos to include fishing lures, a woman, skulls, iron cross and anchor. Gibson has the names “MCFARLAND” and “MAHURIN”, as well as skulls and demon faces tattooed on his right arm. Gibson has a tattoo on his back that reads “LAKEY” and tattoos on his left leg of arrow heads, “660” and doodles. Gibson sometimes wears eye glasses.

Dakota Gibson has fled from law enforcement on two occasions in the last 30 days. The first of which occurred in Kirksville on May 22, 2024 when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle Gibson was driving. Gibson did not stop and fled the vehicle on foot on Missouri Street, west of Osteopathy Street. Law enforcement were unable to apprehend Gibson on that date. On June 20, 2024, law enforcement received a report that Gibson was seen with a female and a white minivan in the rural southwest part of Adair County. An Adair County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop the white van Gibson was driving and Gibson again fled. Gibson later fled this vehicle on foot and entered a heavily wooded area near Montgomery Woods Conservation Area. Several agencies including the Kirksville Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri Conservation Department, Brookfield Police Department, and Linn County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the search but were unable to apprehend Gibson.

Police would also like to remind the public that anyone providing assistance such as transportation, lodging or financial help to a wanted person can be charged with hindering prosecution.
Anyone with information about Dakota Gibson’s whereabouts or any suspicious or criminal activity is encouraged to contact the Kirksville Police Department at 660.785.6945, Central Dispatch at 660.665.5621, Adair County Sheriff’s Office at 660.665.4600, anonymously at 660.627.BUST (2878), or email [email protected].

3 signs to help identify a Publishers Clearing House scam

It can be tricky to tell PCH sweepstakes scams from the real thing. However, you can usually catch a few telltale signs by paying close attention. Here are red flags to look for if someone says you won a Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes.

You’re told you won a giveaway you didn’t enter. You’ll never win a competition that you didn’t enter unless you’re accepting the winnings on someone else’s behalf.

Someone calls you to announce that you won. PCH never calls ahead to let you know you won. Phone call award notifications are always a Publishers Clearing House phone scam, and you should hang up immediately.

Someone claims you have to pay to receive your winnings. PCH will never ask you to pay a fee to get your money because that’s illegal. So, if someone asks you to wire money or purchase gift cards for them, they’re almost certainly trying to scam you.

If you’re still unsure whether you’re dealing with a scam, call the Publishers Clearing House customer service team at 1-800-566-4724. A PCH agent can confirm if you actually won money and can help get it to you.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 30, 2024

Press Release-
Attempted Introduction of Illegal Contraband into Adair County Detention Center

The Adair County Sheriff's Office experienced a troubling incident where an employee is allegedly involved with the attempted introduction of an illegal substance into the detention center. Improper behavior by employees is hard to predict and prevent. No matter how many reminders or how much training employees are given, their actions and decisions are made on their own accord and with the associated risks.

When the possible criminal offenses were brought to my attention by another agency, and for transparency reasons, I allowed the outside agency to conduct their investigation. The investigation did result in the filing of criminal charges on multiple persons.

The Adair County Sheriff's Office does not tolerate illegal behavior and will cooperate fully with the prosecution of those involved to the fullest extent of the law.

The Adair County Prosecuting Attorney filed the following charges on multiple accused suspects:

Kelly Easley, Elmer, Missouri was arrested and charged with:
Deliver Controlled Substance Except 35 Grams Or Less Of Ma*****na Or Synthetic Cannabinoid
{Felony C RSMo: 579.020}

Sabrina Salsberry, Novinger, Missouri was arrested and charged with:
Deliver Controlled Substance Except 35 Grams Or Less Of Ma*****na Or Synthetic Cannabinoid
{Felony C RSMO: 579.020}

Chaze Eiler, Novinger, Missouri was arrested and charged with:
Deliver Controlled Substance Except 35 Grams Or Less Of Ma*****na Or Synthetic Cannabinoid
{Felony C RSMO: 579.020}
Possession Of Controlled Substance
{Felony D RSMO: 579.015)

Frank Salsberry, Novinger, Missouri was arrested and charged with:
Deliver Controlled Substance Except 35 Grams Or Less Of Ma*****na Or Synthetic Cannabinoid {Felony C RSMO: 579. 020)

These charges are mere allegations and all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

When an emergency occurs, the prompt response of police, fire, and emergency medical services is critical to protecting life and preserving property. The safety of police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and the public depends on the quality and accuracy of information obtained by staff at the Adair County Emergency Communications Center.

Public Safety Telecommunicators are our citizens' first and most critical contact with emergency services. On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, sometime before mid-afternoon, there will be two oversized tractor-trailers coming through Kirksville. These units are carrying large pieces of equipment and are slightly larger than average tractor-trailers. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is escorting them.

These vehicles will come in on Missouri Highway 6 from the west, head south down Baltimore Street to Illinois Street, then east to the US Highway 63 bypass, and out on Missouri Highway 6.

We ask that anyone who can’t avoid this route during that time use extra caution. The described vehicles will need extra room, especially to complete the turn at the intersection of Baltimore and Illinois.
