Our first MAOPS@KCOM newsletter of the academic year went out this morning! Our Chapter Secretary will be sending these each month with input from our Legislative Advocacy Chair. You’ll get event updates, member accomplishments, and opportunities like scholarships/grants right in your ATSU inbox. Check your email to be featured in October's issue! 🎃

Tomorrow we will be meeting over the lunch hour (Jimmy John's provided, first come first serve) from 12-1pm in the McCreight Classroom with Dr. Davis to discuss our legislative priorities and goals!

We'll be recapping the American Osteopathic Association House of Delegates meeting which occurred this summer as well as diving into the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons' 2024 legislative priorities. Bring your questions and your appetite! 🥪✨

Quick update for our upcoming MAOPS interest meeting: it will be Thursday, August 10th at 5:30pm and has been moved to McCreight due to flooding in Mehegan. We will be discussing more in depth about the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and what it has to offer.

We will have free pizza 🍕 and prizes (including a 12 month Pathoma subscription and a Greys Anatomy textbook)! 📖🩺

“Howdy, my name is Sammy DeLuca and I’m a second year here at ATSU and our current MAOPS Secretary and Wetzel Scholar Candidate. I’m from northeast MO and I’ve loved being back for med school. I brought with me my family’s farm cat, Lovey, who’s celebrating her 19th birthday this year!” 🥳

“Hi! Im Annelise, and I’m your VP for MAOPS at KCOM. I love running, piano, birdwatching, and going to events around town with my friends. I’m looking forward to helping all of our members get involved in both MAOPS, and in the legislative side of medicine!”

“My name is Caleb Liles, a medical education fellow at ATSU and the current President of the MAOPS student chapter. I am from Maryville, Missouri and enjoy golfing, hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. This summer I spent time on the east coast in Boston and Maine. I look forward to expanding my knowledge of organizational medicine and engaging with other medical students and professionals through MAOPS.” 👏🏼

CONGRATULATIONS Jeffrey Davis!

From all the ATSU MAOPS students, we want to wish Dr. Jeffrey Davis a heartfelt congratulations as he was elected this morning to the AOA Board of Trustees for a 3 year term. Dr. Davis is an incredible Assistant Dean in the Department of Clinical Affairs and Assistant Professor in Family Medicine, Preventive Medicine & Community Health at ATSU-KCOM, and we are so fortunate to have him on our campus!

Congratulations, Dr. Snider! 🎉 This award is well deserved and we’re so proud to also call her (one of) our favorite OMT professors.

Karen T. Snider, DO, assistant dean at A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award, the AOA's highest honor. The award recognizes contributions to the overall profession, including the advancement of the science and art of osteopathic medicine, education, philanthropy, and other fields of public service.
