NYSUT set to rack up big wins in state budget

After several weeks of delays, we expect the state budget to be finalized in the next few days. Though the final details haven't yet been released, we anticipate NYSUT will win big on many of our major items. Among a long list of victories, we’ve restored the majority of proposed Foundation Aid cuts, made progress toward fixing Tier 6, saved SUNY Downstate, boosted higher education funding and maintained support for teacher centers.



These big wins in the budget are due to activism of our members. Over the past few months, thousands of NYSUT members from across the state have added their voices to support key budget issues like pushing for fully funded Foundation Aid, higher ed funding, saving SUNY Downstate, and, of course, fixing Tier 6. Stay tuned in the coming days as the final budget is released and we analyze how it impacts our priorities.

Sad news: Mary Lou Fernandes-Retired Teacher and the First Director of the Lackawanna Teacher Center passed away on March 20,2024. Mary Lou was instrument in establishing the Lackawanna Teacher Center.
