Calcasieu Assessor Wendy Aguillard has an important message for property owners recently affected by the extreme weather that passed through Calcasieu Parish on April 10th, 2024. If your home is unlivable or your business nonoperational after the recent weather events, you may qualify for a reduced value while repairing damages.
To apply for this potential reduction for the tax year 2024, you must submit a Disaster Reassessment Request application with supporting documentation to our office by August 15th, 2024.
The Disaster Reassessment Request application can be completed in person at our office or printed directly from our website under the “FORMS” tab: (www.calcasieuassessor.org/Forms)
—> Click on “Disaster Reassessment Request”. Printed applications can be returned: in person, via email, fax, or mailed in. Contact information is available on our website under the “CONTACT” tab: (www.calcasieuassessor.org/Contact).
Each application must include supporting documentation (such as interior/exterior photos of damages, insurance adjuster summaries from disaster/flood/tornado claims if applicable, and/or any contractor estimates to repair current damages) for consideration.
As you begin to travel city roadways, please exercise extreme caution.
Update: 9:30 am - Wednesday, April 10, 2024
As of 8:45 a.m., City of Lake Charles Transit Services have resumed normal operations.
City Hall and other City services are fully operational with regular business hours.
City Traffic and Communication Crews are assessing damage to signs and traffic signals. We are aware of several City-owned traffic signals that are not operational at this time. This is due to lack of electrical power, and we are working with Entergy to get these operational. In the meantime, if you come upon a blinking or non-working traffic signal, it should be treated as a four-way stop. Crews are working to repair and replace downed and damaged Stop signs.
City Streets/Drainage crews are also in the process of clearing downed trees and limbs. The priority at this time is to clear debris that is blocking all lanes of travel on a roadway. As they complete this work, they will move towards clearing smaller limbs and other debris.
Please proceed cautiously and courteously as you travel through the City. If you see downed trees, storm debris or downed stop/street signs, please report these areas by calling (337) 491-1220. If you come across downed power lines, do not approach them or attempt to drive over them. Please report these locations by contacting Entergy.
----------------------------------------------------
City crews are out clearing debris from roadways and storm drains. If you see downed trees and other storm debris in the roadway, please report it by calling our Public Works Department at (337) 491-1220.
If you observe downed power lines, do not approach them or attempt to drive over them. Downed power lines and power outages should be reported to Entergy.
Transit services remain temporarily suspended as of 8:10 am. City Hall and other City services are operational at this time.
Our office will open at 10:30 today due to severe weather.
Calcasieu Assessor Wendy Curphy Aguillard and staff would like to thank Lake Charles Toyota for cooking and serving an Employee Appreciation Lunch today for our office, the Clerk of Court staff and the Tax Collectors staff. The BBQ was awesome!
The Calcasieu Parish Assessor’s office will be closed Friday, March 29th in observance of Good Friday. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, April 1st, 2024.
