KEY MESSAGES FOR TODAY:

Photos from US National Weather Service Lake Charles Louisiana's post 07/19/2024

Here are the latest key messages from this mornings forecast analysis. Have a great weekend.

Photos from US National Weather Service Lake Charles Louisiana's post 07/18/2024

Issued at 5:20 am CDT Thursday July 18, 2024...

Good Thursday Morning.

It is still unfortunately looking like a wet pattern setting for the area with high rain chances right through the weekend.

With the very moist air mass, conditions will favor thunderstorms with high rain rates in a short period. These torrential downpours may cause drainage and runoff problems and bring about a flood potential for streets and urban poor drainage locations. See the images below for the Excessive Rainfall Flood Potential for each day through Monday.

Stay weather aware for these thunderstorms, and if you may want to have a backup plan in case you have any outdoor activities.

Take care. ~Joe

Issued at 5:15 am CDT Wednesday July 17, 2024...

Looks like a wet pattern is setting over the next few days into the weekend. A surface frontal boundary will move into the region and stall. Meanwhile, a very moist air mass will be in place. The result will be a likelihood of showers and thunderstorms each day through at least Sunday.

With the high moisture content, the convection will have the possibility of producing high rain rates in a short period of time. Therefore, torrential downpours bringing about the potential for flooding of streets and urban poor drainage areas. Therefore, a Marginal Risk Potential (risk level 1 out of 4) for excessive rainfall leading to flooding does exist. This is roughly between a 5 and 14 percent chance of seeing flooding.

Take care and remember, especially if you have outdoor plans this weekend, to keep up with the forecast and the high rain chances. ~Joe.

Photos from US National Weather Service Lake Charles Louisiana's post 07/16/2024

Issued at 5:10 am CDT Tuesday July 16, 2024...

Looking like typical summertime weather for us through Wednesday. Hot and humid with a chance of those mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

As the week progresses, shower and thunderstorm chances will increase as a surface frontal boundary will enter the picture on Thursday before moving down to the I-10 corridor on Friday before stalling out through Saturday.

The interaction of the frontal boundary with a very moist airmass will allow for the thunderstorms to have high rain rates. Therefore, there is the possibility of locally torrential downpours. Due to that possibility, a Marginal Risk Potential (risk level 1 out of 4) for excessive rainfall that may lead to flooding will begin to be outlined for the region starting on Thursday, especially on Friday, and then into Saturday.

Take care and be aware of the increase in thunderstorm activity, especially if you have any outdoor plans as we near the end of the week. ~Joe

Issued at 4:45 am CDT Monday July 15, 2024...

Good Monday Morning, we are starting out the work week with typical summertime weather, meaning hot and humid conditions with a chance for mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

As we get toward the end of the week, showers and thunderstorms will increase as a surface front moves down from the north and interacts with a very moist and unstable air mass. This will result in a Marginal Risk Potential for excessive rainfall that may lead to flooding.

Take care and enjoy your day. ~Joe

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected again today. Conditions are favorable for tropical funnel clouds to be spotted from the coast to the Interstate 10 corridor once again.

07/13/2024

Excuse the quality of the photo! Another day, another funnel, spotted this time from a Sabine Pass we**am from on top the home of the sharks (Sabine Pass ISD). In addition to Sabine Pass, over the past couple days funnels have been spotted in Johnsons Bayou, Maurice, Grand Chenier, and Estherwood.

A Heat Advisory has been issued for eastern portions of the area TOMORROW (Saturday).

From 11 AM to 7 PM, hot and humid conditions may cause heat-related illnesses.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on those vulnerable to the heat.

Photos from US National Weather Service Lake Charles Louisiana's post 07/12/2024

We have had a couple funnel cloud reports today. This one occurred over the marsh near Johnsons Bayou and quickly dissipated, however another small funnel was reported near Rockefeller Refuge earlier in the day. Anyone else catch any funnel clouds today?

Warm and humid with showers and thunderstorms today. Basically, it's just a typical summertime day.
Due to the recent rainfall in southeast Texas (Thanks, TC Beryl), there is a chance for localized flash flooding in primarily southeast Texas counties today and Tomorrow.

If you're out and about, watch out for heavy rain and lightning in thunderstorms! Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Good evening folks. Wednesday will be little warmer. Factor in the humidity and these heat indices approach or exceed 100°F for many locations across and . Whether you're doing routine outdoor work or assisting with cleaning / restoration efforts after storm damage, don't put your health in jeopardy. Heat related fatigue can set in quick causing a person to feel disoriented. Monitor yourself and others for signs of heat exhaustion and act appropriately.
Take care,
Cam
