Here are some developments that we’ve seen in the interest rate market over the last couple of weeks:

**Wednesday, the Federal Reserve announced that it will be holding rates unchanged for the remainder of the year. They also signaled that they are open to reducing interest rates if the economy softens in 2024.

**Average mortgage rates have come down almost a full percentage point for a 30 year Conventional Loan since they peaked in October 2023 at 7.79%.
Home prices have continued to rise throughout the last 2 years even as interest rates have increased. Now that interest rates are starting to come down, we expect home price appreciation to continue.

**While there will be some fluctuations in interest rates in the coming months, the general consensus is that the trend will be lower because inflation appears to be on the decline.

It is important to keep in mind that data changes daily, so if you are in contract on a home, I always recommend locking early in the process so you don’t have to worry about sudden changes in the rate market.
