Mutual aid on the way!!

Tomorrow we are launching our 1st mutual aid funded scholarships!! This will be a recurring monthly opportunity when we have mutual aid funds available.

✨How does the process work?
People who have financial need & are interested in applying for a labor/ postpartum doula or mental health services (individual, couples or family therapy) can complete our scholarship applications on our website between Nov 1st - Nov 15th. Applications will be reviewed & applicants will be selected based on funds available, need expressed & timeline requested (for doula clients). People chosen for the scholarships will be notified the 3rd week of November. Due to HIPAA, we will not share who has been awarded scholarships.

✨Who can a scholarship recipient choose to be their doula / mental health / lactation support professional?
On our website we have a list of preferred providers that are culturally & linguistically congruent with the communities we serve AND have completed our H&S trauma informed trainings. At this time, scholarship recipients can choose which provider they want to work with from our preferred providers list. Pairing will be based on scholarship recipient’s preferences & provider availability.

✨How often can a person apply?
We will be offering these scholarships monthly (except in December when we rest). Scholarships will be open for 2 weeks at the beginning of every month, when we have funds available. If a person applies one month, but is not selected, they can reapply in the following month if they’d like.

✨What services can recipients expect with scholarship services?
For labor doula: 2-3 prenatal visits, labor support & 1-2 postpartum visits (doula is paid $1500)
For postpartum doula: 10 hours of care ($40/hr, up to $400)
For mental health: 10 therapy sessions ($100/ session up to $1,000)

We handle all provider payments for services completed.

✨Please note we will not be launching the emergency lactations consultation funds until January 2025✨

Thank you again to our community for caring for each other & trusting us to channel support where it’s most needed!

Indigenous People’s Day is & will always be about giving ✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿🪶⛰️

We respectfully acknowledge the land we live on as the land of the Southern Paiute (Numu/ Nuwu), Washoe (Waší∙šiw), Western Shoshone (Newe) & the Tribes of the Great Basin. We pay our respects to the stewards of this land (past & present), to the land itself & to all the elders who once & still do inhabit this region.

Today, & everyday, we recognize & honor all the ancestors & descendants of the First Peoples across our nation.

We are committed to reducing the harm caused by colonial violence on pregnant, birthing & postpartum bodies, as well as children & families. We also work to challenge & dismantle the ongoing pervasive violence & erasure of Indigenous peoples – here & across the world.

Ya’ll really know how to show up!! 🤍✨

We are beyond grateful for the passion our community has towards investing in & choosing us to be the stewards who connect folks to the supports they need. It’s our duty to be transparent about how we navigate mutual aid. In September we received $6,442 in mutual aid donations from 16 people!!

The avergae labor doula in Las Vegas charges $1500 & the average perinatal mental health therapist charges $100- $150/ session. On November 1st, we will be opening up our scholarship application for community members in financial need to apply for labor doula support or therapy sessions. The scholarship application process will be open for 2 weeks.

To check out our preferred doulas & perinatal mental health therapists, go to the providers tab on our website! Thank you all soooo very much for helping us help community!

✨ It's here! Sol Connection Vol. 1, Issue 3 is live! ✨

As we honor the Autumn Equinox, we reflect on the harmony and unity of community care, mutual aid, and birth work.

In this issue, the Co-Founders of Heart & Sol Collective, Kaleigh Mancha and Rikki Jenkins, reflect on the abundance of the year and the momentum leading into their 4th anniversary. They share updates on their community efforts, from launching the Period Pantry to organizing reproductive health workshops. Their energy and dedication continue to fuel this movement.

We’re also proud to share that Heart & Sol was recently featured on PBS! 🎥 The segment highlights the work we’re doing to decolonize birth work and mental health in Las Vegas, with special mentions of amazing contributors like Victoria Flores and Iveth Balant. We are so grateful for this platform to showcase our work to a wider audience.

In this issue, you’ll find:
Rikki Jenkins’ beautiful birth story, focusing on the power of support and autonomy in birth work.
Connie Ann’s stunning photography that captures the depth of freedom and self-discovery.
Brandi Anderson’s powerful piece on reproductive justice and the fight for bodily autonomy.
Visionary art from Juan Quetzal, whose work is rooted in decolonization and Indigenous heritage.
Luis Perez Gutierrez’ vegan pozole recipe, bringing together tradition and plant-based living.
Brenda Hernandez shares the importance of mutual aid and how we can build new systems of support within our communities.

Join us in celebrating the collective power of community, art, and activism. This digital issue is available now—click to read and immerse yourself in these stories of liberation.

9.20.24 Nevada Statewide Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Coalition’s Camp Treasure: Navigating the Deep Sea of Maternal and Child Health

We had the pleasure of being a part of and had the opportunity to share our review the results of our annual Pregnancy, Loss, and Birth Experiences in Clark County.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to our panelists who shared their stories.

Here are a few takeaways Heart & Sol Collective had from the symposium

✨ The importance of listening to birthing people and centering their voices throughout the pregnancy and birthing experience!

✨ We need more Spanish speaking doulas that represent the community they serve.

✨ Our community will greatly benefit from professionals who are culturally congruent in ALL settings.

✨ Community care is the first line of intervention when there are provider shortages or few resources in our communities. We have a responsibility to care for each other, to ask hard questions, advocate for each other and share our wisdoms.

Advocacy — Heart and Sol Collective 09/20/2024

Earlier this year we created a survey funded by the Maternal Mortality Review Committee titled ‘Pregnancy, Loss & Birth Experiences im Clark County’.

We promised to share our findings with community members, perinatal professionals & medical providers. Our data fact sheet includes a call to action to providers. The data reveals we have a LOT of work to do in adequately & safely caring for pregnant & birthing people.

The fact sheet is under the advocacy tab on our website where we also provide info for how report obstetric violence & medical racism by profession.

Please share with your communities!!
