We've seen several interesting speculations circling around regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. The Mayo Clinic put together a fact sheet to debunk the most popular myths. We do recommend reading through these to help you decide whether (or not) to get the vaccine when it's available to you.

7 more days until National Feral Cat Day. 7 more days to join us in helping babies just like this one.
Friends, we see a lot of kittens in our clinic throughout the year. Some of them are doing alright - they’re unsocialized and not really suitable for adoption, but they may have a colony caretaker looking out for them. Those kittens are the lucky ones.
Injuries, back-to-back pregnancies, & illness are not uncommon. Spaying, neutering, and vaccinating to stop the cycle of reproduction is so essential to the health and wellness of our community cats.
We have a goal to bring on 11 new monthly donors in the next week, so that we can serve these cats all year long.
It’s easy to join - go to our HCWS.org/donate, and then make a monthly gift to start making a difference today.
Since the lock down, there has been a surge in domestic abuse. ZS won't be hosting any charity fundraising events any time soon for obvious reasons, we want to pass on a virtual opportunity to both assist in your disaster prep and be a hero to one of our favorite local charities.

Here is some Q&A about why hand washing is the recommended method over hand sanitizer, the proper method for both and why you need to take these steps. I too learned something that's not commonly mentioned.
Why is hand washing the most recommended mode of prevention?
• Three things happen when you wash your hands with soap and water:
o You are removing visible dirt and mucus.
o You are using a soap that decreases surface tension.
o You are physically, by friction, loosening, removing, and washing away whatever is on your hand.
• If your hands are visibly soiled, whether it’s from playing sports, gardening, or wiping a runny nose with the back of your hand, that acts as a barrier between hand sanitizer your skin’s surface, so you really aren’t reaching the germs underneath.
• If your nose is running due to a virus, the virus is in that mucus on your hand. Studies show hand washing removes viruses faster than hand sanitizer.
What is proper hand washing?
• Wet your hands with clean water.
o The water temperature doesn’t matter – it’s the physical act that removes germs.
• Apply soap to your hands and work up a good lather between the fingers, under the nails, back of the hands, the palms, and wrists.
o Any soap will do. It does not need the ‘antibacterial’ label because it’s the physically movement that is cleaning your hands.
• Scrub hands for at least 20 seconds.
o Most people wash for 5 seconds and that is not long enough to remove the microbes.
• Thoroughly rinse your hands with water.
• Completely dry your hands before touching anything.
o Damp hands spread up to 1,000 times more germs.
What is the properly way to apply hand sanitizer?
• The sanitizer should be at least 60% alcohol base.
• Place about a quarter to half-dollar size amount of sanitizer into your palm.
• Rub it all over the parts of your hand, same technique if you were using soap and water until they are completely dry.
• Resist the urge to wipe your hands on a paper towel or pants to speed up the drying process. This is not enough time for the disinfectant to kill.
• Hand sanitizer can be very drying, so use lotion once your hands are dry to moisturize so you do not crack your skin, which leaves openings for germs to infect the body.
Should be no surprise we canceled our meeting. We're just going to practice social distancing and do a virtual meeting through a series of posts. We still want to help our community by sharing some of the "hows" and "whys" that aren't being answered in the news reports.
Sisolak orders casinos, other nonessential services shut for 30 days The governor also strongly encouraged Nevadans to stay inside as part of the state’s latest response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Additionally, if you rent and have a lease, please check your agreement for the “Act Of God Clause”, which helps with financial alleviation of many national or global emergencies. If your lease does not have this and you have been let-go or your household cannot afford rent due to the current circumstances, contact your property manager, show proof of why you cannot afford the rent, and ask if they can give you an addendum to release you from your financial responsibilities for the month. This goes for both commercial and residential.
These are tough and uncertain times due to the outbreak, but local utility companies are doing their part to help the people of Las and . NV Energy, Southwest Gas Corporation, the Las Vegas Valley Water District and City of Henderson Government have suspended disconnections for non-payment.
The companies say these steps are being taken to ensure our customers don't have to worry about losing service as the Coronavirus outbreak plays out. People concerned should contact their electric, natural gas or water provider to discuss their situation.
