The part of NIL that no one wants to talk about. TAXES.
Athletes and Parents are so focused on securing Name, Image, and Likeness deals that they tend to forget one of the most important factors. Once a student-athlete is paid $400 or more in a calendar year, there are tax liabilities.
This isn't a scare tactic, this is reality. Financial literacy has to be a part of your development if you plan on being an NIL Athlete. My advice would be to join a program like Phase 1 Elite Sports Marketing offers that is all about educating student-athletes and parents.
