Adopters Welcome
Here at The Animal Foundation, our Adoptions Department approaches adopting our homeless pets in need with an open end approach philosophy inspired by the coined term 'Adopters Welcome' by The Humane Society of the United States. Some ways that The Animal Foundation embodies this philosophy is by removing outdated barriers for our community to adopt such as but not limited to:

No landlord checks/HOA checks
Apartment and condo friendly
No house checks
Adoption Counselors are educators first, and we strive to provide proper education on responsible pet ownership rather than turning away the uneducated. We strive to help place more pets in need into loving homes with Adopters Welcome by welcoming all members of our community and eliminating unnecessary barriers that deter adopters come into shelters to adopt.

While we strive for every interested adopter that comes into our organization to adopt, we still do implement our right to deny an adoption if after conversations are had, it does not seem the adoption would be best suitable for the pet and/or adopter and will attempt to find the best course of action applicable to turn around this decision if it is found in the best interest of the adopter/pet.

How to add a new pet to your family
Visit https://animalfoundation.com/adopt-a-pet/adoption-search to browse adoptable animals to have an idea of what you are looking for when you arrive. An adoption counselor will work with you to help match you with an appropriate pet.

Adoptions take place on a first-come, first-served basis for walk-in traffic, beginning at 11am each day.

When you arrive, you may browse the adoption area for a pet, or if you have an animal in mind, please note the animal ID # and you'll be able to speak with an adoption counselor.

Please note, patrons sometimes line up before we open to meet a pet, especially during adoption events.

We do not place holds on pets.

Please do not bring your current pets with you to the shelter. We do not allow in-shelter dog-to-dog introductions.
The shelter is a strange and stressful place for most pets and does not provide an accurate indication of how the animals will act in a home environment.

The most successful dog-to-dog introductions are properly staged outside the shelter environment. We provide step-by-step instructions on how to properly introduce your new pet to resident pet(s).

*update, we found someone for now*
A really big ask!
We are desperate for someone who has no dogs at all (visiting or living) to temporarily foster a 9 yr old. He has to be moved ASAP because of the virus that struck where he is. Please, is there any of our PAST ADOPTERS that have no dogs anymore that can take him for now. Or anyone who has no dogs but who can foster. We will give you all the supplies you need. Put your thinking caps on! He has to be moved today and we have NO WHERE for him to go. If someone is interested in adopting.
And has no other dogs, If they take him temporarily for us, We will waive their adoption fee on whatever dog they get matched with.

A1295034 Kodi is a 1 ½ -year-old, 70-pound, neutered male, Labrador. Home for the Holidays makes his adoption fee only $45.
He entered the shelter as an owner surrender. His previous owner moved into a smaller place and was unable to bring Kodi along. He has lived with other animals and children in the past. Kodi is kennel trained but not housebroken. He was neutered by our medical team.
Kodi is calm but timid until he gets to know you better. Kodi requires some time to adjust to his new surroundings but once he does you will see how sweet he can be. Kodi is easy to leash and doesn’t pull you while being walked. Kodi needs a companion willing to show him the meaning of unconditional love. Kodi is ready to join your family, he just needs a little motivation. Show Kodi that you care and give him a place to call home, he’ll be the best decision you ever made.

Birdie lets you know she needs to go potty by barking at the sliding glass door. She likes small toys, likes to chase her curled tail and loves her treats. She gets along with all dogs. Just when I thought I had cried all the tears I had left in me...I saw this!!!!

READ IT...LET IT SINK IN!!! THIS IS WHY RESCUES BEG YOU TO ADOPT AND NOT SHOP.

TO SPAY AND NEUTER. THEY DESERVE BETTER FROM YOU!!!!

No more lonely cold nights or hearing that I'm bad
No more growling belly from the meals I never had.
No more scorching sunshine with a water bowl that's dry.
No more complaining neighbors about the noise when I cry.

No more hearing "shut up", "get down" or "get out of here"!

No more feeling disliked, only peace is in the air.

Euthanasia is a blessing, though some still can't see
Why I was ever born If I weren't meant to be.

My last day of living was the best I ever had.
Someone held me very close; I could see she was very sad.
I kissed the lady's face, and she hugged me as she cried.

I wagged my tail to thank her, and then I closed my eyes and died……"

Come meet this cutie at Petsmart today until 1pm!
1321 W Craig Rd NLV

Meet Tony, what a sweet fella he is. He is 5 year old 13 lb Chihuahua Dachshund mix. Tony has all sorts of useful skills like keeping your floor clean of crumbs, politely shredding toilet paper rolls for recycling, keeping fresh laundry warm by rolling in it, and many more. He loves people and other dogs. He is a bit needy so it would be great if his adopter worked from home or had time to spend with him as he settles into a new environment. He came from a household of dogs and does well with small and large breeds so we would like for him to have furry siblings. Tony has a sweet nature and would be appropriate for older children whom are respectful. To meet him please fill out an app on ahome4spot.com

A1293080 Cranberry is a 2-year-old, 41-pound, spayed female, French Bulldog/Pitbull mix. Home for the holidays makes her adoption fee only $45.
She entered the shelter as stray and was spayed by our medical team.
Cranberry might shy away at first but that’s only until she gets comfortable. She is friendly and eager to find a new home. She is a well-behaved dog looking for her new best friend. She loves being around people but can sometimes use a confidence boost, but that could easily be fixed with a little tender, loving and care. Cranberry is looking for a dedicated partner, it took her a few years, but she is finally ready to settle down.

Unfortunately, no animal is immune from ending up in the system. All different: breeds, ages, shapes, sizes, and colors come through their doors. All are amazing and unique, in their own way. And each and everyone one of them, wish for a family to call their own.

Guess who is ready for his furever home!! PERCY, whose name is actually Percival is such a little ball of 2-year-old energy! This adorable little guy was abandoned when his owners moved out and left him behind. A good neighbor took him in but Percy thought he was a big dog also, so that did not work out. On his right leg, he has/had an open sore. The vet believes this was brought on by stress, the stress of being left alone and he just started licking his leg. It is healing nicely now but he needs to have an eye kept on it. His last vet check-up will be on Friday, December 1st, but he is responding well to the medicated spray. He is a full-blooded Merle Pomeranian.

Percy needs a lot of activity. He is very excitable and loveable. He LOVES to eat. When he had a different cone on we used a slow feeder which did slow him down a bit. Now with the cone I have to help him eat. Right now he weighs 13lbs., so he could lose a pound or pound and a half. He eats Fresh Pet and Blue Buffalo dry food. As for supplements he receives Bixbi Immune Support and Caniclean Seawood for clean teeth.

His day consists of sleeping, yard play, and eating, and playing a little a lot with the other Pommies. They run and chase each other. He would do well with another small dog to play with. No food resource problems but he does try and eat everyone else’s food. Percy is learning how to listen to No and stay while everyone else finishes eating.

Percy loves all types of toys, especially squeaky ones, but he does not destroy them. His ideal home would be an energetic home with adventures, walks, and time spent together. He does enjoy running in the yard so a house is best for him. He is potty trained but might have some accidents in the beginning. Right now he does not have a doggy door but he should be adaptable.

95% potty trained and might mark some in the beginning and does not have accidents unless not taken out to potty 2-3 times a day.

Supplements Recommended:
BIXBI Digestion powder - the smallest scoop mixed with his wet food in the am
Caniclean Seawood for Dog Teeth

Okay with another small dog (not sure about cats)
NO small children under the age of 10.
Fully vaccinated/neutered
Micro-chipped
Home Check will be done
