Happening Tonight at 6pm! Help us stop the dangerous charter expansion in Reno. We invite you to join us in person and urge the Reno City Council to overturn the approval of the new charter school facility in the North Valleys. This expansion will harm the operations of the Washoe County School District, compromise student and educator safety, and is out of alignment with the Reno Master Plan.

The Nevada State Education Association and our affiliates have taken on the issue of educator safety through our Respect Educators Act. This resulted in the passage of AB285, striking an important balance between ensuring educator safety through progressive student discipline, while also maintaining the restorative justice framework.

Being an NSEA member means you’re a part of an organization that strives to create learning environments where every student has the opportunity to flourish, regardless of background or circumstance.

The Nevada State Education Association is leading the charge to ensure that anti-union, anti-worker policies don't seep into our state. While out-of-state special interests work every day to attack unions, Nevada educators are proud of the work we do for our members, our students, and our profession.

Whether it be legal victories to force district compliance with contract language during the employee surplus process or working to ensure PERS equity for education support professionals, NSEA is committed to the well-being and protection of our members.

Unfortunately, throughout the country, we are continuing to see attacks on workers and the freedom to join a union. With these sorts of policies, working people always lose. You cannot say you believe in public education and then actively work against educators when they join a union to advocate for themselves and their students.

Whether it’s school vouchers or stadium subsidies, public money belongs in public schools. When Gov. Lombardo proposed a massive $500M+ expansion of private school vouchers for an unaccountable voucher scheme, NSEA and our affiliate unions opposed and defeated it.

When the Governor tried sneaking $3.2M more in public during the Interim Finance Committee shortly after Session, the effort was again defeated by the Nevada State Education Association and supporters of public education. Public money belongs in public schools. Period.

Photos from Nevada State Education Association's post 07/02/2024

One of the most important reasons to belong to the Nevada State Education Association is that we are guided by our priorities. We all know the realities of being an educator, but this single word guides us so that we are ensuring our profession is not only funded but respected.

NSEA represents educators' interests at the local, state, and national levels, advocating for policies that benefit educators and public education. This includes lobbying for funding and reasonable class sizes, professional development, elevating your voice, and legal support. The work we do matters for our educators and kids and public education as a whole, which is why out-of-state special interest groups have to send anti-union mailers.

Throughout the last year, the Nevada State Education Association and our affiliate unions were integral in advocating for our campaign, seeking a 20% salary increase for all educators, a $20 min. wage in our schools, and average class sizes of 20 students.

All across Nevada, local NSEA-affiliated unions were successful in obtaining over 20% salary increase as well as the minimum wage in our schools. Yes, we have work to do, but we were focused on our priorities for nearly 18 months. It was the Time For 20 Legislative Session.

Vouchers undermine efforts to provide an excellent public education for all 05/17/2024

Keep public money in public schools.

Vouchers undermine efforts to provide an excellent public education for all Since the early 2000s, many states have introduced significant voucher programs to provide public financing for private school education.
