Congratulations to Maker's Mark Distillery, the 2023 MCED Industry of the Year winner!

Quality craftsmanship, heritage and tradition, community engagement, and innovation, are all words that are associated with this company. The success of this Loretto distillery is not just about great bourbon, it’s also about the significant economic impact they bring to our area. The distillery currently employees 322 full time Marion County residents and their wages are nearly 150% or more of Marion County's average annual wage rates. This company also provides a couple of extra non-wage compensation benefits that make them unique: profit-sharing for all employees, up to 6 months parental leave for all primary care givers and 4 weeks for secondary care givers.
It is estimated that Maker's Mark distillery paid nearly $4.5 million in local taxes last year and around 50% of the company’s annual purchases were made right here within Marion County. The company has experienced a 7.71% increase in sales and revenue over the last year, and increased its market size by 2%.
Innovations within the past 12 months include a new bourbon, Cellar Aged, as well as achieving B-Corp Certification and Regenified Tier 2 Certification, leading the way in the bourbon industry to creating a more sustainable future.
Please join us in congratulating Maker's Mark Distillery!

Congratulations to Lebanon Water Works, winner of the 2023 MCED Small Business of the Year Award!

LWW is considered a small business due to having only 15 full-time employees, however their impact on our community is mighty. Water, often taken for granted, is a precious resource that underpins economic growth and prosperity in our community. From manufacturing to agriculture, water provides the essential ingredient for product development, irrigation, and processing. It supports the growth of businesses, facilitates construction, and ensures a high quality of life for our residents. Our community’s recreational areas, parks, and tourist attractions all depend on water resources. Under the direction of Superintendent Daren Thompson, LWW has demonstrated excellence and upstanding professionalism. Please join us in congratulating Lebanon Water Works!

Congratulations to Ben Daugherty and Anthony Bradshaw of Popes Creek Contracting, LLC, winner of the 2023 MCED Entrepreneur of the Year Award!

Over the years, economic development has transitioned from focusing strictly on job creation, to now including things like quality of life, housing, transportation, and more. Home construction is a pivotal driver of economic development. Building homes generates a multitude of jobs and relies on a network of local suppliers, from architects and builders to electricians and plumbers. New homes necessitate the development of essential infrastructure, such as roads, schools, and utilities which, in turn, attracts more businesses and residents to our area. The creation of quality homes has a direct impact on property values, benefiting homeowners and the broader community. The commitment to quality construction enhances the value of our neighborhoods. This award is a testament to their entrepreneurial spirit, strategic direction, and community impact. Please join us in congratulating Popes Creek Construction!

Congratulations to EMA Director Rebecca A Williams! We are proud to have you serve Marion County!

KEMA is beginning to spotlight directors and deputy directors throughout the Commonwealth. This week Director Rebecca Williams was selected by KEMA Region 5 and 6 Vice President Greg Buckler.

Rebecca Williams was appointed Director of Emergency Management for Marion County on August 29, 2022. Her public safety career began in March 2014 as a correctional officer, but she soon discovered Emergency Management while working in the KDOC (Kentucky Department of Corrections) Operation Division in 2017 as a program coordinator and assigned to special projects.

By May 2018 the Emergency Management Division was established and she was officially reallocated to the division full-time. “What I enjoy most about EM is improving processes and systems, particularly with planning. I also enjoy exploring how advancing technology can benefit EM as well as Public Safety. I created the remote pilot aviation program for the University of Kentucky Police Department and have had a remote pilot license since August 2020”.

Director Williams received her Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) designation from IAEM in April 2022.

Director Williams’s hobbies include travel, reading, tending to her vegetable garden and houseplants, kayaking, and woodworking.

Please join us in congratulating Director Williams for her dedicated service to the citizens of Marion County and the Commonwealth.
