Donovin Lewis has been awarded the Otis A. Singletary Graduate Fellowship for the 2021-2022 academic year based on both academic and extracurricular achievements. This award, which is the highest attainable graduate fellowship offered by the University of Kentucky Graduate School, is provided in honor of the late former UK President Otis A. Singletary. Recently, Donovin graduated with a BS in EE, having earned a 4.0 GPA, and the PEIK Certificate, received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship, and led the electrical engineering component of the University of Kentucky Solar Car Team to win the Formula Sun Grand Prix national competition. Donovin, who was also a USP student, has now started the PhD program at UK where he continues to be advised by Professor Dan M. Ionel, L. Stanley Pigman Chair in Power and PEIK Director.

Rosemary Alden received the 2021 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting Undergraduate Student Poster Award - Second Prize. Recently, she graduated with a BS in EE and the PEIK Certificate, and received a most prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. Rosemary, who is also an USP student, has now has started the PhD program at UK, where she continues to be advised by Professor Dan M. Ionel, L. Stanley Pigman Chair in Power and PEIK Director.

We are very proud of Dr. Damien Lawhorn for completing his NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration KY Graduate Fellowship research and successfully defending his PhD dissertation under the direction of Dr. Dan M. Ionel. The University of Kentucky PhD committee included Drs. Aaron Cramer, Gabe Dadi, James Lumpp, and Joe Sottile. We wish Damien continued success in his future career and on projects with Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. and NASA's Johnson Space Center.

We had an excellent 2020, as featured in the news posted throughout the year on our website. We have adapted to new conditions, made great progress in teaching, research, and outreach, and received many group and individual awards and recognitions, including the very recently announced Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet 2020 Community Environmental Luminary Award.

PEIK and KIAC are honored to receive the Community Environmental Luminary Award from the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet. The award is given in recognition of outstanding achievements in education and outreach. PEIK has issued hundreds of undergraduate and graduate certificates in power and energy within the University of Kentucky College of Engineering. KIAC provides manufacturing plant energy assessments entirely free of charge and makes recommendations for potential savings.

Researchers from the SPARK group within PEIK and from LG&E and KU have recently received from the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS), Renewable Energy Systems Committee, a Transactions Paper Award - Third Prize. Most recent research by the group has been published in the widely circulated IEEE Access. The publications are reflective of the strong collaboration on timely topics of new technologies for renewable energy generation and storage in the electric power systems.

We are proud to announce that Rosemary Alden received a Best Poster Award at the 2020 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting.
Rosemary is an EE and PEIK University Scholars student, who started her BS studies at UK in 2017 and her research in electric power engineering in the SPARK Lab in 2018 being advised by Dr. Dan M. Ionel. After the BS graduation, she plans to continue for Ph.D. studies at the University of Kentucky
