True Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) creates essential oils mainly from its flowers. You can see them here nearly dripping. We have plants and seeds available at Strictly Medicinal Seeds. These are nice to hold indoors as potted plants over the winter--they do well in rich soil and moist shade. I find them deeply attractive.

Hardy to Zones 10 to 12, normally grown as a potted plant and brought indoors for the winter

(Pogostemon patchouli) Tropical perennial native to Asia. Iconic essence of the Hippie Culture that arose during the 1960's and dissipated thereafter, leaving little archaeological evidence in its vericolored wake. The patchouli plant (and the reddish essential oil obtained from it) evoke images of sweaty sun and green lawns in Berkeley, the strains of Mr Tambourine man drifting across a lucid landscape, smiles and avocados, lace stockings, violet-paned sunglasses, brown breasts with dancing ni***es and matchboxes containing (not matches). Plant prefers full to part shade, moist, rich soils, humidity. The plant thrives under good care but fades fast with neglect--it needs watering almost daily, has zero tolerance for frost and will sunburn if not protected by shade.

Our first trailside foraging class will be scheduled in the next week or so.
We will go to 2 or 3 different spots to walk and gather plants. I will provide recipes for some of the known plants that we will encounter 😀.
We will talk about plant identification and responsible foraging guidelines. The class will be about 2-2.5 hours long.

I've been completely stoked to be teaching Yin Yoga, with chair adaptations at Tabitha's Sage House since January.
If you are not familiar, Sage Intergenerational House is a new concept in living and care. Our elderly population lives in a beautiful environment full of amazing activities and resources for their care while, the second set of residents at Sage House are nursing students with a focus on geriatric care.
It is so fun to teach classes with such opposite range of accessibility and abilities.

Now that we are dealing with the change in the season head on. It's time for me to brew a big batch of my "Cold Buster" tea.
For those of you who have taken my classes, you know this tonic is a must during cold season.
I was disappointed in the quality of my ginger this time around. I went to a local holistic market and paid a premium for big fresh roots. When I started peeling them today in preparation for my boil, they were brown and nodes were showing signs of mold. Ouch! 😟
I cannot express enough the importance of inspecting your herbs, roots and fruits when shopping at these premium grocers. There is noting worse than having to sideline a batch because of rot, and wasting money.

I digress. Lol

so, I was able to salvage half my ginger, and things look great for my batch.

I will be leading another class teaching this "Cold Buster Tonic" on Sunday, November 19 at the shop. DM me for details.
