Sierra shared: "Fulbright has helped me achieve my dream to become a plant breeder that makes a difference in people's lives. With my research at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, I was able to contribute to developing varieties of wheat and barley that I believe will improve the quality of life for the world's increasing population." Through breeding barley, researchers are able to develop varieties optimized to grow in different environments, resist diseases, and other traits which lead to more stable crops for communities across the globe.
