We just finished adding a three speed drivetrain and a fresh set of tires to this old warehouse cargo cycle, breathing fresh life and versatility to this unique rig, so it can be enjoyed for years to come.

It's been feeling quite Spring-y lately, and the time to start thinking about biking and summer fun is now! We're extending our hours at Salty Dog Cyclery to accommodate the longer days ahead. New Summer hours are the same as last year and as follows:

Monday: 10am - 7pm

Wednesday: 10am - 7pm
Thursday: 10am - 7pm
Friday: 10am - 7pm
Saturday: 11am - 4pm

We will again be closing early on Tuesdays to participate in the Nacho Ride (more details on this later).

Through their Cadex line beginning in the mid-80s, Giant was among the first manufacturers to mass implement the use of carbon fiber into their production bikes.

This slightly newer, 90s, Cadex mountain frame serves as the perfect base to build a retro ripper for our local Midwest-style singletrack. Trails are fast, without being too technical, making a lightweight build around a rigid fork the right tool for the job. A modern 1x clutched drivetrain keeps things simple and free of the chain slap common to the era that birthed this frame. The ultralight Mavic CrossMax wheelset sports a ceramic brake track and is set up tubeless with Continental RaceKing tires, offering the best available tech still compatible with the vintage frame. Stopping comes quickly thanks to the aforementioned ceramic brake track & compatible pads on the Shimano Deore V-Brakes. A comfortable cockpit featuring appropriately wide bars and a WTB saddle round out the build continuing the all-black motif.

"Now, THAT'S a rad hybrid!"....

While the catch-all category of "hybrid bike" often contains some of the most practical styles of bikes for a large group of riders, unfortunately, manufacturers often build them equally generic as well. That's not the case with this vintage Jamis Coda from the top of the model's lineup though. The very 90s, purple splash paint job complements some cool and unique frame accents. A short-lived, high end, hybrid specific groupset, the Shimano 700cx, fills out the build from the hubs to the drivetrain to the brakes. Chunky, tanwall Goodyear Peak tires and a few purple accents round out the look on one of our favorite hybrids to come through Salty Dog Cyclery.
