Registrations to hire an intern for the Spring Cohort 2025 of Intern Foundry are now open! Purpose-driven businesses, public sector organizations, and nonprofits are all welcome to sign up now for this unique opportunity to add capacity and talent to their team with a student from University of Nebraska-Lincoln Honors Program.

Given the aim of the program is to address community need with meaningful work-based learning, there are limited spots available in order to make this experience as rich as possible.

We encourage you to contact us at hello@thefoundry as soon as possible if you would like to learn more about the program or secure your spot to hire a competitively paid intern at a deep discount to nonprofits.

The Foundry is closed today. Have a safe and happy holiday! 🧨🎆🎇

06/18/2024

The Foundry will be closed tomorrow for Juneteenth. We recognize this day as a day for community awareness, celebrating the liberation of enslaved people, and a step toward our work to ensure the equal justice of Black people in the United States.

We are so sad for our friends and Foundry members who had to make the difficult decision to cancel the parade today due to damage and loss caused by last night’s storms. We’ve seen them working so hard to plan this event for our community.

Cleanup efforts begin this afternoon, if you'd like to help. Additionally, they are accepting donations to help cover equipment losses.

We want to give a huge thank you to the smart, inspiring, and ICONIC Allison Dahl from Econic for presenting some fascinating research and frameworks on understanding communication styles. We were honored to host you at our community lunch last week.

We look forward to putting some of these strategies for understanding each other and ourselves to good work!

Small nonprofits are often built to respond to community needs by those directly closest to the issue. Not all small nonprofits need to grow big to make an impact on their community, but all small nonprofits need community support to thrive.

As the community they both serve and depend upon, we hope you'll support all nonprofits on Give to Lincoln Day, including small nonprofits like our members.

The why behind our work matters deeply to us. In this video, Jay Wilkinson and Randy Hawthorne, founders of the Foundry and current board members, explain why they created the Foundry and why they continue to support the work that we do.

Your donation changes a young professional’s path.

We’ve seen positive experiences deeply root students in the community, creating a greater likelihood of continuing to invest in purpose-driven work, local communities, and the state following graduation.

The Intern Foundry (IF) program is an intentionally designed partnership between the Foundry and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Honors Program to address the “brain drain” in Nebraska by pairing the University's highest-achieving students with meaningful work-based learning opportunities addressing critical areas of high community need.

Your Give to Lincoln Day Donation directly impacts the number of students we can support through Intern Foundry. With our goal of $10,000, three new nonprofits will gain interns to address community need, and three incredible young professionals will be given the opportunity and tools needed to make Nebraska their purpose.

Congratulations to Intern Foundry 2024 Spring Cohort! We are incredibly thankful for your work on behalf of the program, and also the entire community.

Last week we presented each of our high-achieving students with a certificate, and honored Drew Baldridge and Matt Price, our Intern Foundry Coordinators, with a plaque commemorating their important work.

Our small ceremony featured speeches by Dr. Julie Murray-Jensen, Executive Director of the Foundry; Dr. Patrice McMahon, Director of University Honors (Nebraska Honors) at University of Nebraska-Lincoln; and Cathy Lang, Senior Advisor to the President of the University of Nebraska.

Dr. Patrice McMahon, Director of Nebraska Honors, shares a few of the reasons why she chooses to partner with us at the Foundry for the Intern Foundry program.

Nonprofit organizations, purpose-driven businesses, and government agencies provide an ideal learning laboratory for these high-achieving students who care about the community and want to do meaningful work.

This work is a huge part of our mission to support, educate, and develop the purpose-driven ecosystem in Nebraska. We are beyond proud of the students who share their talents with the worthy organizations we serve. We have seen how this program helps create a Nebraska where innovative, intelligent young professionals make deep connections with our state. Learn more here:

All it takes is one person to help create a better Lincoln for future generations!

Can you help us achieve our mission of affecting change in our community? Your donation can send a student through our youth program, help pay for lunches during a seminar day, and, most importantly, develop better leaders for a better Lincoln! By donating through the Give to Lincoln Day platform, your donation will get a boost from the $650,000 match fund!

Give to Lincoln Day is coordinated by the Lincoln Community Foundation with a matching fund made possible by local sponsors. The more we raise, the larger the match we'll receive. But we only have until May 30th to help us reach our goal. Go to bit.ly/Give2LL2024 to donate!

05/01/2024

As a nonprofit built to build other Nebraska nonprofits, May is one of our very favorite months! Each day of the Give to Lincoln Day season we get to hear about the fantastic missions, goals, and successes of this incredible purpose-driven ecosystem. As a community, we also love to see the greater community come together to support these groups by donating, sharing their posts, and volunteering.

From everyone at the Foundry Community, we see your work and we appreciate you.

Thank you.

Cheers to reaching each and every goal.

The Foundry Story

The Foundry is proud of our ability to incubate organizations into their next phase, and that much isn’t going to change. We’ve seen passionate people come to us with nothing but an idea—much like scrap metal—and go on to build a staff, develop programs and impact the world. They turned a half-baked idea into a full-blown reality; a pile of scrap metal into a beautiful cast of iron. We want to help others create their casts. We want to be the furnace to heat the metal; we want to help find—or build—the perfect mold; and we want to be there while it cools into the finished product.
