**’Twas the Night Before Middle and High School**

‘Twas the night before school, and all through the town,
Not a student was stirring, not even a frown.
The backpacks were packed by the front doors with care,
In hopes that tomorrow, they’d feel fully prepared.

The students were nestled, all snug in their beds,
While visions of lockers danced in their heads.
With schedules in hand and pencils to spare,
They dreamed of adventures and school to prepare.

When out in the halls, there arose such a cheer,
A message was spreading, important and clear.
Away to the bathrooms, the teachers all dashed,
Ensuring that everything was perfectly stashed.

The stalls were stocked up with a sight to behold,
Free period products, ready and bold.
From tampons to pads, a great selection was there,
So all who needed them could take without care.

More rapid than recess, the news it had spread,
And the students all smiled, no need to feel dread.
“Thank you!” they whispered as they closed up the door,
Feeling supported and stressed out no more.

As the morning light dawned, and school came to life,
Students walked in without fear or strife.
For they knew that the bathrooms, with products in store,
Had removed a small worry they’d faced before.

So here’s to a school year, exciting and bright,
Where every student feels seen, supported, and right.
With free products in place, and courage held dear,
Let’s make middle and high school awesome—this is our year!

Exciting news for Pennsylvania!
Since taking office, Governor Shapiro has fiercely defended the rights of women and girls to access a full range of reproductive health care services and the freedom to make their own choices about their own bodies. Part of that freedom includes access to affordable menstrual hygiene products in Pennsylvania schools for students.
The Governor’s proposal to make menstrual hygiene products available at no cost in Pennsylvania schools received bipartisan support in the legislature and was championed by First Lady Lori Shapiro.
This budget also delivers $3 million to provide menstrual hygiene products at no cost to our students.

We at Warwick United are excited to see the final funding received to Warwick School district, and hope to work collaboratively with the school on implementation. Further, we commit to filling any gaps not covered by this budget.

On May 21, Kayla Cook, Christina Smoker, and Zoe Wiker had the privilege of being guests at the Governor’s residence.

As we’ve noted before, May is Menstrual Health Equity Month. In Governor Shapiro’s proposed budget, he is advocating funds for schools to provide menstrual products free of charge to students. Period products would be treated just the same as toilet paper, paper towels, and tissues.

We were able to share about the direct access model we have built at Warwick School District. Approximately once a week, a handful of designated students, with their parent’s permission, restock the bathroom stalls at the high school and the middle school. This student-centered program provides responsibility, pride, and empowerment.

We are grateful to have had the opportunity to highlight Warwick in a positive light to the Governor, the First Lady and this community. We are also grateful for the support, and advocacy on Menstrual Health Equity from the office of the Governor.
