I know it’s hot but please, there is absolutely NO SWIMMING
at Millport
With the air temperatures moderating during the evening as well as during the daytime, there has been a positive effect on the water temperatures within Lititz Run. The morning water temps have been in the low '60s although the afternoon temps do rise above the 66 degree level. As a result, fishing is reopened within the Conservancy with the hope that the fishing is conducted during the morning up to the 11:00am hour when the stream temps begin to climb. Please try to respect this and try and carry a thermometer with you while fishing to monitor the water temps for yourself. Also, keep the fish in the water as much as possible when brought to hand and release them quickly with as little handling as possible. As the summer moves forward, as always, we will continue to pay careful attention to Lititz Run and the resources found within that waterway as well as all the other resources found within the Conservancy. Please share this posting so word is spread. Many thanks for your cooperation.
As a result of the recent heat wave that has arrived in our region that has caused the stream temps taken at various locations within Lititz Run to range from an average low of 66 degrees taken at 10am to a high of 72 degrees taken at 5pm, fishing within Millport Conservancy will be closed until further notice. The high evening temperatures just are not low enough to cool the waters down to sustain an average low of 65 degrees throughout the day which is a safe temperature to target trout. Temps will be monitored and fishing will reopen when temps are lowered. Many thanks for your understanding and care for the resources within Millport Conservancy.
As we enter into the summer months, water temperature within Lititz Run becomes critical for the trout that are found there. For those who fish not only within the conservancy but elsewhere on Lititz Run, please carry a thermometer with you and check the water temps prior to fishing. Or you can visit the following website to monitor the water temperature on Lititz Run remotely. Although not always accurate so always check temps prior to and while fishing with a stream thermometer. You will need to convert the reading from celcius to fahrenheit at the website. https://www.srbc.gov/continuous-instream-monitoring/watershedProfile?cimSystemsId=2&monitoringStationsId=116 Many thanks for your consideration for this valuable resource.

An fYI for those who would like an easy way to monitor the temperature, dissolved oxygen, as well as other values on Lititz Run within the Conservancy, the link below will take you a website where that data is gathered twice a day. These values come from the monitoring station found on the south side of the stream upstream from East Millport Road. The temperature values are in centigrade so a conversion will need to be made to fahrenheit if you need it. There are also historical charts there as well. This monitoring station is maintained by the Susquehanna River Basin Commission.

As this work progresses, please stay clear of the area due to safety concerns. No fishing will be permitted in this area as well.
