Orchids of Light Foundation

It may not look like much but if you search the photo closely you see the power of transformation. Not by what was has been achieved in concrete and steel, but by the promise of what is possible. That little blue dress is filled with hope for something never imagined possible. This half completed building provides shelter for her and 125 other girls who are now warm, safe and dry before each school day starts. Maybe you can imagine being part of this hope. If you would like to help me finish the second floor and add to that promise drop me a line and I'll share some ideas on how you can. I need a few hands to finish this dream.

Orchids of Light Farm : Orchids of Light Foundation How many people are hurt? Currently there are 312 people/ families who have been affected directly and indirectly over 700 hundred people in the community, their homes have been destroyed, and their property.

Even though we have been silent on our social media screens for some time Orchid has been making a lot of noise over the past year. Covid created an even greater challenge to all our efforts to aid our missions. In spite of the pandemic we managed to complete phase one of our school construction at our community in Uganda and provide an ongoing platform for the continued support at Jeremiah House in Haiti.
Both of these projects were affected greatly by Covid-19.
In Uganda “Food Security” once again became our primary challenge as people were not allowed to work and in a hand-to-mouth existence that means famine. Orchid has been able to provide some relief, but our backup funds have been exhausted and we are now working on a major campaign to build a self-sustaining farming project.
More on that in the coming months. We need funds desperately so if you can, please donate today.

Super Happy to share another Thanksgiving Miracle of Food donations to 200 families in Peru. Hats off to Path of the Heart; the team who never tires of caring for families in need. I give thanks for them.

I'm blessed to serve as a board member of Path of the Heart Peru. POTH was one of the first missions Orchid worked with. It wasn't long until we discovered that they have a legacy of getting done what matters most when it matters most. Although their core focus is renewable energy and child welfare, POTH is always taking care of the most vulnerable people when the going gets even tougher. As I have mentioned on other pages; Covid brings hunger to the weakest of humanity. Path of the Heart Peru didn't stand by and watch as people went without. Hearts are beating for the people of the Andes.

No, Orchid hasn't been asleep during all the chaos. We have been hard at work on our projects and missions. This week we delivered our third wave of food assistance to the most distressed families we serve in Kenya.

Don't think that our flower is sleeping during these very difficult times. Over 120 families in Kenya and Uganda are being fed who otherwise would not eat. We are blessed so we can be a blessing.

In spite of the pandemic and personal crisis of our saints on the ground, services continue to aid those most vulnerable in Peru. Path of the Heart continues to illuminate lives in this time of crisis.

The Corona Virus affects us all in different ways. We talk about when we can go back to bars and restaurants, when our jobs will restart and life for us will be normal again. At Orchids missions in Africa the situation is far more dire. When you are forced to stay in your home and your only source of income for food is day labor or selling fruit or washing hair or from some tiny entrepreneurial effort to feed your family your family goes hungry. That is why Orchid is sending relief to families that are most vulnerable. We made a $500 donation (thanks to Orchids of Light sponsors like you) to Uganda this week. It is a drop in the bucket of what is needed. But we are glad we can help. You can help us to continue these kinds of donations by sending a gift of any size. Thank You

I need some help from one or more of my propeller head friends...and I know a lot of you. Because the virus has our mission in Kenya on lock down we can't roll to the kids to see and work with them. We have a distance learning plan but it was only in the budget stage. Now we need to leverage a software that will allow us to collaborate via phone and reach as many of the kids at one time as possible. I'm thinking "Zoom" or facsimile. But I have been out of the loop for a long time. Simon, Grace and I need suggestions for a free or low cost option that can link lots of people at the same time on a phone. Thanks so much...Rich

Some months ago, long before we heard the words Corono Virus, a group of Orchids raised $5000 to start the work for permanent classrooms at our Katungu Village project. I'm happy to report that their love and investment is taking form even as a global pandemic captures all our imaginations. The cure for everything is compassion. Getting ready to return to Africa after a 9 year hiatus. I am always nervous before any trip as I don't have the Lewis and Clarke bravado some tag me with. It will be amazing to see first hand what all of you who have supported Orchid over those nine years have accomplished in Kenya. I will be sure to send back daily reports from Mwingi while I am there with my good friend and Orchid board member John Briguglio. Please keep us in your prayers as we let God deliver each new day to us and we see what He has planned without expectation. R

It’s a very happy New Year at Katungu Village Uganda, thanks to the kids at the Cannon State School in Brisbane Australia. Orchid was blessed by their generosity and dedication to delivering a New Years resolution to make a statement about what really matters in life. Being a part of something bigger than ourselves. You really do get what you give!
