Sit down and focus on one single thing (like the breath or a mantra) for a few minutes EVERY day. Start small (5 minutes), and gradually work your way up to a longer sit time as you start to feel more comfortable. This will begin to allow you to harness the reigns on that crazy mind, and start to steer it in the right direction. With practice, controlling your mind will become second nature, and you’ll finally be able to reap the benefits of that incredibly powerful bio-machine. 🦾🦾

No two Somatic Therapists are alike! Here’s what you can expect in a session with me:
My Somatic Therapy sessions begin with a brief discussion in which we identify the major current issues you’re facing, as well as any past struggles that still weigh heavy on your head and heart. Additionally, we identify areas of your body that are storing physical tension, and together we draw connections between your physical discomforts and your mental and emotional state.
After our discussion, you'll receive a 60 minute bodywork session in which we’ll use a combination of massage, meditation, and deep breathing to move you out of the fight/flight/freeze response, and into a higher-functioning mode where you can comfortably feel more present in your body. Through developing awareness of the mind-body connection and using specific, slow and intentional bodywork techniques, somatic therapy will help you to reset your nervous system and release the tension, anger, grief, and/or other emotions that remain in your body from past negative experiences.
You may experience emotional and/or physical sensations arise during or after our somatic therapy session as a result of the treatment.

Have you ever noticed how much our energy levels and emotional states are influenced by the moon?
Just as the ocean’s tides are affected by the lunar cycles, so are our body’s. After all, we are 60% water. 🌊🌊🌊
Our energy levels and emotional states are directly influenced by the waxing and waning phases of the moon. Just as the moon grows to a full moon (waxing phase), so does our energy. We become more social, active, and extroverted. Similarly, just as the moon shrinks (waning phase), we become more introspective and passive.
Right now we are currently shifting from a waning moon to a waxing moon. Have you noticed your energy naturally turning inwards over the last week or so? As the moon begins to grow, see if you can notice your energy beginning to turn outwards. ✨✨✨
Knowing what phase the moon is in has helped me to learn the patterns of my own emotional flows, and most especially to know when to take my feels a little less seriously if I start to spiral. 😵💫🙃
It’s also helped me to see when my energy levels typically increase and decrease during the month - when to be active, and went to take it easy - honoring my body where it’s at, and understanding that it’s all just a passing phase.
I much prefer consistency (!!!), but such is not the case with these bodies. Our ever changing phases are a constant lesson in detaching from the impermanent.

Have you ever literally felt heartbroken? 💔
That aching, heavy feeling in your chest that you just can’t shake until the sadness leaves… Yeah, me too… Ever wondered how it’s possible that we can physically feel our emotional experiences?
Our body is inextricably linked to our mind. We can’t separate the two no matter how hard we try. So whatever we think and feel, our body directly experiences as well. For example, when we feel stressed, our shoulders and neck become tight. When we feel grief, our chest feels heavy and constricted. When we feel angry, our body gets hot and our head aches. The list goes on and on...
Sometimes when we experience problems or traumas that are too overwhelming, we repress them until we’re ready to deal with them later. Depending on our body, and how long we wait, we will most likely begin to develop physical discomfort as a result of the unprocessed emotional experience. If left untreated for an extended period of time, these bodily discomforts can eventually grow into a variety of different ailments or dis-eases. (guilty! 🙋♀️ did anyone ever see my big thumb?? 👍 more on that later 🙃)
Beginning this August, I’ll officially be offering Somatic Therapy sessions that directly deal with our mind body connection, in which we’ll use the body as a spring board to delve deeper into our inner world.

My studio room is a sacred space for me, and I keep a few things in here that remind me to stay rooted in who I am, and why I’m here doing what I do. 🌞📿
The first image posted is a murti (spiritual statue) of Krishna that my mom gifted me many years ago. (Thanks mom!) In my spiritual tradition, we call God “Krishna”, which means the all attractive one, and He is the masculine aspect of divinity. The second image posted is a trifold mini altar from of (1) Śrī Radha, the feminine aspect of divinity (we believe God is both male & female), along with (2) Pancatattva, and (3) Lord Nrsimha, further expansions of the Supreme.
The reason I keep these items here is to turn my room into an altar space, and to pull in a spiritual energy. Every time I work on someone, or work with someone, I pray beforehand and ask for divinity to come and be present with me, guide me, and use me as a tool for healing.
Having these items in my room reminds me of what I’m really doing. It keeps me from going into a mundane practice, and reminds me of what my dharma (purpose) is— to give the people I serve a higher taste of spirituality. The spiritual path requires deep healing on *all* levels; and so, I’m using the modalities of bodywork, energy work, and coaching as a platform to assist people on their spiritual journey. My goal is to help my clients go deep within themselves in order to discover their truest identity— that of an eternal spirit soul temporarily living within a material body.

Somatic bodywork is any type of bodywork—whether it’s massage, reiki, or craniosacral therapy—where you and your practitioner consciously work with your inner perceptions. It combines bodywork with verbalization of feelings and emotions, so it treats pain and discomfort as more than just sensations in the physical body.
Somatics works with the whole of you: your physical sensations, emotions, and thoughts; your intuition and imagery; your spiritual insights. It can facilitate deep healing of old wounds and trauma.
Bodywork can bring up a lot more than pain in our muscles and tissues. Our body stores unhealed experiences for a safer time, and then nonverbally brings them up for healing—as sensations, symptoms, feelings, and more. So what if those were the focus? That’s somatic bodywork.
