We are LIVE at the unveiling of the new pet food pantry for people experiencing homelessness.
The pantry is sponsored by Project Street Vet, a nonprofit serving pets belonging to people experiencing homelessness, and Kismet, a new pet brand co-founded by entertainers and entrepreneurs John Legend and Chrissy Teigen. Kismet will donate over 2,500 pounds of food and treats for dogs to the Project Street Vet initiative. The establishment of the pet food pantry builds upon the Cityโs efforts to collect pet food, among other needed items, through donation drive-thru events and collection boxes at public libraries since early 2023.

With rising summer temperatures, some exceeding high heat index, City Health Officer Dr. Anissa Davis reminds residents to take precautions against the heat. The Heat Index is a measure of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature.
All City Parks, Recreation and Marine Community Centers and Long Beach Public Library locations are available as designated cooling centers during their normal business hours.
People are encouraged to check on friends, family and neighbors who are home-bound to make sure they are not affected by the heat.
Older adults, those with chronic illnesses, infants and young children are at greater risk for heat-related illnesses. However, anyone can suffer heat illness and should take precautions to reduce the risk of heat-related illness and injury.
