Due to the success of our monthly mattress drop-off events, the Public Works Department has launched a 90-day pilot program to keep that same drop-off site open 24/7.

Now, through October 29th, you can drop off your unwanted mattress at 970 W. Chester Place, Long Beach, CA, any time of day and on any day of the week!📆

This is in addition to our monthly mattress drop-offs the first Saturday of every month. By providing convenient and accessible mattress recycling options, we can significantly reduce the incidence of illegal dumping in our community. Bring your mattress to be recycled today!♻️

In partnership with , we have a free Recycle Your Mattress event coming up August 3, 2024. Open to residents! These events are held the first Saturday of every month and is a great way to give your old mattress a new life.

After your mattress gets dropped off, it is cut open and separated into
steel, foam, fiber and wood. Those materials get into many other useful products diverting mattresses and box springs from landfills and deterring illegal
dumping.

No appointment required, just show up and our staff will help unload your used mattress🛏️ .

🌎 Week 4 Challenge: Swap out single-use plastic items in the bathroom. Limiting plastics in your personal care routine is better for the planet and your wallet! This week we'll teach you a few easy swaps:

✅ Choose bar soap and shampoo/conditioner bars over plastic pumps
✅Use a bamboo toothbrush
✅Use a metal razor
✅Prioritize multi-use, refillable skin and body care

You'll start to notice your bathroom looking nicer and more organized without all of the unnecessary trash and plastic waste.

🛒 Week 3 Challenge: Prioritize plastic-free options at the grocery store.

Although many items come in plastic packaging at the store, there are choices that we can make to reduce the amount of plastic we bring home:
🍎 Store reusable grocery and produce bags in your car or by the front door to bring with you to the store
🍎 Choose unpackaged vegetables and fruits and products packaged in glass, paper, or aluminum
🍎 Shop at refill or bulk stores to avoid packaging altogether

Week 2 Challenge: Pack your lunch for school or work without using single-use plastics! Something as small and habitual as packing a lunch for a school or work day without plastic can make an enormous impact.

A few swaps can be:
🌎Packing food in reusable containers over single-use sandwich bags
🌎Bringing a reusable water bottle or thermos
🌎Prioritizing bulk snacks instead of single-use snack bags
🌎Packing a cloth napkin

Once you start making these swaps, you won't want to go back! Reducing plastic waste is not only better for the planet, but it's also better for your wallet!
