What is PULSE?
PULSE (Pre-Medical Undergraduate Learning Through Shadowing Experience) is a student-run physician shadowing organization aiming to provide undergraduate students with a holistic understanding of the medical field. Our members shadow medical students, residents, and attending physicians in seven different departments (Cardiology, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Pediatrics Cardiology/Nephrology, and Rheumatology) in the nationally recognized Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
Every year, PULSE holds several quarterly academic and outreach events with the goal of assisting our members in their professional development both inside and outside the hospital. Members also conduct quarterly case study presentations on observed patient cases of their choice with the opportunity for SRP 99 or SRP 199 academic credit. PULSE also organizes the yearly St. Baldrick's Brave the Shave event in collaboration with the St. Baldrick's Foundation to raise awareness and funding for pediatric cancer research.
PULSE recruits new members once per year during Spring quarter and is only open to undergraduate students currently enrolled at UCLA. Members begin shadowing in the Fall quarter following their acceptance.
