This weekend at Mass we hear that the Pharisees did not understand that the law is more than an action to be carried out. We are called to be doers of the word and not hearers only. Let the law take root in your heart, and it will bear fruit in your works.

St. Damien de Veuster of Moloka’I’ (1840–1889) cared for the physical, medical, and spiritual needs of those exiled to the l***r colony on the Hawaiian island of Moloka’I. His life of service shed light on the effects of this devastating disease and allowed people to see those afflicted with it with more compassion and love.

Prayer of Declaration

Lord,

In the season when faith is hard, help me to be as bold as Peter who picked you above all others saying, “To whom shall I go? You have the words of eternal life.” You’re my God. I’m yours.

There is nowhere else I would rather be.

Amen.

St. Charbel Maklouf (1828–1898) was a Maronite monk and priest who lived much of his life as a hermit. He was renowned for healing, casting out demons, and levitating during prayer. Millions have visited his tomb and sought and received his intercession, even those of other faiths.

Prayer of Eucharist —

Dear Lord,

May our congregation be more deeply assured of Your love each time we receive Communion.

May our “Eucharist” make our lives a song of worship and thanks, sung to You.

May this sacred food nourish us to be bold and brave disciples of You.

Amen.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK — Jesus promises eternal life those who believe in him if we eat his flesh and drink his blood (participate in the Eucharist). How can we show our gratitude to the Lord for such a gift?

This upcoming Sunday we hear Jesus warn us that unless we eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, we do not have life within us. The Eucharist is the wellspring of our Christian life, in every place and in every moment. Let us always remember that where there is no Eucharist, there is no life. See you at Mass!

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. Today is a
Holy Day of Obligation and our Mass times are 8:15 AM and 6:30 PM.

The Swiss Guard are a specialty armed force who protect the pope, and they've been doing so since 1506. The historic full-dress uniform is a fan-favorite of visitors to the Vatican.

Servant of God Darwin Ramos, a poor Filipino boy, died from muscular dystrophy at the age of 17. Never brought low by the disease, he spoke of his illness as his “mission for Jesus.” Many were blessed by his smile and compassionate friendship. He was known as the Master of Joy.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK —

Despite opposition from those who knew Jesus and his family personally, Jesus offered eternal life to all who believe in him. How can someone remain open to new or challenging ideas?

This Sunday we hear Jesus tell us that He is the living bread that came down from heaven. His actions, His example, His teachings — they are not just words on a page, stories from a moth-eaten history book. They are life. They are food for our journey, and they are forever. See you at Mass!
