We are open Monday for Presidents’ Day! Hope to see you and your pup in our daycare!
My sister took this photo of the shop the other day and it made me smile. It looks warm and inviting, and as a small business owner, I want my store to reflect who I am and what I’m about. I want people to feel welcome and know that their pets are family to us. We are not trying to be new and gimmicky, we are classic, steadfast, experienced, reliable, and most importantly…responsible. This is why we have been in business for over 55 years!
Yesterday was Roy’s birthday! He came to celebrate with us today in daycare. Roy began coming to daycare as a timid little guy. Now, in the mornings I hear him barking all the way down the street as he approaches the shop and runs excitedly in to play with his friends. It makes my heart so happy. ❤️ Happy Birthday Roy!
When I started at Pour La Pooch 18 years ago, a friendly couple brought their little Shih Tzu puppy in for her first haircut. Her name was Pouchette and she was perfect. She waddled in as cute as could be, in a dress, ready for her “day of beauty” as her mom used to say. Terri would bring special ribbons for Pouchette’s hair for every occasion. Pouchette had jewelry and a wardrobe for a princess. She was their baby and for most of her life, she came in for a bath every other week! And she LOVED it! She loved all of our staff, but especially Jorge. She would sit on the grooming table, not even needing to be tethered. She just sat there and didn’t move while he worked on her haircut. She was such a good girl. Her mom texted me last night to tell me that she had passed at age 17, and to thank us for her care. We shared memories and tears. We will always remember you Pouchette. After 17 years together, how could we not? RIP sweet girl.
Little peppers!! These are two of our daycare regulars both named Pepper!! They have become buddies! Brining your dog to daycare isn’t just for babysitting. It’s a way for your dog to learn how to socialize!
I love how Louie puts his paws up on the counter like he’s waiting for service! 😂 His new haircut looks great and he feels proud of himself for being such a good boy!
It’s taken me some time to post this as it’s been difficult losing so many loved ones over the past year. But I want to pay tribute to our beloved customer Jasper who passed away at the age of 17 years. Yes 17 years! When he and his mom Stacey started coming to Pour La Pooch, he was a puppy and we called him the “Cloud”. He was the fluffiest, softest little guy and just so sweet. Sometimes he got his hair cut short on his body, but he always had this big poofy head like a rock star. He had so many fans! All the staff made a fuss over him and people that saw him at the shop always smiled. He would just sit in your arms—never struggling to get away, just happy as a clam, because he knew he was loved. He is missed by him mom and grandma, and great grandma and by all of us at Pour La Pooch. RIP Jasper.
Just a reminder, we are closed tomorrow 1/2/24. We will reopen on Wednesday 1/3/24 with normal business hours. We can’t wait to see you!! ❤️❤️❤️
Yesterday we celebrated Shannon’s birthday at Pour La Pooch. Shannon has been a bather and now works as a daycare/front desk attendant. It’s been just over a year since she began, and her quiet, gentle demeanor is so pleasant to be around. She shows so much kindness towards the dogs and her co-workers. We wish you a happy birthday Shannon!
I’ve been delaying this post because it makes me very sad that this wonderful client of mine is gone. But I can’t start the new year without honoring her. Atara Ross was a wonderful woman. She was a customer of Pour La Pooch for more than 18 years and I had the pleasure of caring for her dog Coco and now Ella pictured in this photo. Atara was always cheerful, warm, and delighted in getting her sweet dogs primped and cleaned, always with a bow on each ear. She loved our staff—Jorge, Primo, Carlos, and Francisco were like family to her. She always thanked them for their care—she was always thinking of others. I loved how she was so adventurous and traveled even as she battled health issues. I’m grateful that I got to get a message to her in the hospital. When you see someone once or twice a month for 18 years, and care for their babies, they’re not just a client anymore, they’re a friend. Rest in peace Atara. May your memory be a blessing.
Billy Jean comes in once every few weeks for a walk in nail trim. She’s one of our beloved senior citizen dogs who is just so lucky to have parents who care for her so dearly. We are so grateful to our wonderful clients who drive from near and far because they trust us with their precious babies. We are honored. ❤️
Beautiful Lily passed away this month at the age of 14. She had managed to live a full and beautiful life despite so many health issues. Her owner Bob has been a Pour La Pooch client for many years with his previous dog Brando whom he loved dearly, but Lily was a very special soul. When she would come to the shop for her baths she was always stoic, polite, and just stared into your eyes like she really understood everything. Bob took such good care of her all of those years after rescuing her, and there bond will live forever. We love you Lily and we will miss you. 💔
Come by Pour La Pooch today and take a photo in our photo booth! Your dog can be a model like Gazpacho! We are open today 12/26-12/30. We will be closed on 12/31-1/2/24.
Happy Holidays to friends and family of Pour La Pooch. Looking back on this year, we are grateful for our health, for the love and laughter of family and friends, and for the loyalty and support of our incredible Pour la Pooch community. Thank you for trusting us with your pets for so many years. We are grateful. ❤️❤️
This year’s PLP staff Holiday Party was so much fun! Our team (minus some absentees) gathered at my home with my family and close friends for some White Elephant shenanigans, music, food, and a fire in the fireplace. It’s nice to come together and relax as a group. It’s something we never get to do at work. I’m so grateful for my staff who are like family to me. They even tolerated my awful karaoke attempt (not pictured here…you’re welcome). A big thanks to my husband who did all the dishes and cleaned the house, and to my children and niece and nephew who turned off their phones for about 2 whole minutes to watch the White Elephant game. Teens are fun. Here’s to a bright and healthy 2024.
Have you met Moochy? AKA “The Mooch”? If you haven’t, you are missing out because this guy is adorable and funny! Moochy has been a daycare regular for almost 2 years and he makes us smile with HIS smile. Oh yes…Moochy smiles! Just swipe to view those pearly whites! We love this guy and just wanted to give him a shout out since we missed his birthday post a few months ago 😞 So happy extremely belated birthday to our special boy!! ❤️❤️❤️
Just a reminder to support small businesses when you shop this year! We know it’s easy to order off Amazon, but when you support a local business, you are supporting the neighborhood by helping to keep brick and mortar shops open! ❤️❤️❤️
We love getting doggies ready for their holiday photos! Here is Odin the Airdale Terrier looking so handsome!
Winter mornings in L.A. can be chilly. Our daycare clients like to soak up the sun when they aren’t going bonkers running around playing.
Happy Birthday to Lance! We hope you’re enjoying your vacation—you deserve it! Lance has been working at Pour La Pooch for almost 3 years, but I’ve know him for almost 35 years! Lance is one of the most hard-working and dependable people I have ever known and I’m so lucky to have him working with me at PLP. He’s one of those people who goes above and beyond—not because you asked him to, but because it needs to get done. He’s a team player—he opens the shop, closes the shop, and offers help to other co-workers. And he LOVES dogs. His lap is a constant cuddle pile for daycare dogs and in his free-time, he dog-sits for special clients. I’m grateful for his time, and even though I don’t normally trust people who don’t eat ice cream—I would trust Lance with my life. Hope this years the best one yet Lance!
We have brand new Pendleton Blanket Beds for your pup this holiday season! Support small businesses when doing your holiday shopping!
This kitten wants to be in a home with dogs. All of her other littermates were adopted.
Este’s foster is holding her paw telling her that her forever home is out there. She has seen all her littermates get adopted and other kittens come into Maeday and get adopted quickly… yet Este is still waiting! Time is also ticking because her foster goes away for the holidays on Dec 15th and we HAVE NO WHERE FOR HER TO GO 😭 If you’ve been eyeing Este and ideally have a dog (she loves dogs) apply ASAP!
Este must be indoor only! Shes spayed, vaxxed & chipped!
18 years ago today I took a chance, and I’m so glad I did. I was 31 years old when I bought Pour La Pooch. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I knew I loved being there, and I still do. I feel proud of what I’ve built and I feel grateful for all I’ve learned on this journey. I’m thankful for my wonderful clients—those who are with us and those who are gone. Thank you to my incredible PLP team—you’ve been there since the beginning! Thank you to my family—mom and dad you’re here with me. you are the best sister in the world and best mom to my girls when I can’t be there. Branden…you keep me going when things get tough and I couldn’t do this without you.
So cute! Adopt a dog today?
Holidays are around the corner and the weather is cooling off. We have a beautiful selection of winter coats and sweaters for your pup! They make great holiday gifts for friends and you can feel good knowing you supported a small business! ❤️❤️❤️
Ruby was so happy last night after her groom at Pour La Pooch—it was adorable! She was smiling from all of the attention!
Found this photo from 2020—our PLP team is all masked up, doing what we had to do to take care of each other and the business. I am so grateful for all the hard times we have gotten through together. As a family business, and a business that is family, we have survived economic recessions, riots, glass-shattering explosions (outside our window), COVID, competition from other businesses—including one who moved next door, entertainment strikes, employees moving on to new jobs, and losing loved ones—both human and dogs. But we always get through it with hard work, and a love for what we do. We are so grateful to those who have supported our small but mighty business through our hard times and yours. It means everything to us. Happy belated Thanksgiving to our PLP family.
This week through next, we are offering 20 % off all regular priced daycare passes as a way to say Thank You! (Limit 1 pass per dog).
Teddy Lee, showing off his Pour la Pooch haircut. This puppy is precious.
I’ve been very sad this week after learning that a beloved client has passed away—losing her battle to cancer, and I want to honor her memory. Nan rescued her dog Lily 7 or 8 years ago and always believed that it was Lily who rescued HER! She brought her beloved Lily to Pour La Pooch for regular baths, always careful to keep her natural “wood sprite” look, a nickname I gave Lily which always made Nan laugh. Nan loved Lily more than anything and would only leave her in the care of people she trusted—Olga, Justin, Jorge, Primo, and especially our bather Carlos whom Nan adored, were all part of Lily’s extended family. Nan was a special person who was always vivacious, warm, and genuinely interested in people. I will always be grateful for the maternal role she played in my life after losing my mom to breast cancer. Nan would always check in with me and was always following up on my health and well-being—always supportive and reminding me that I was strong enough to get through hard times. She was proud of her Jewish identity and that was something we had in common. I know she would be happy knowing that Lily is going to live with her closest friend, and I know Lily will carry Nan’s love with her wherever she is. RIP Nan.
