Beautiful morning to honor our Veterans and fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
US Veterans: Thank you for protecting our freedom to live a true life, to choose the right path, to grow in our character, to tell our world about Jesus, and to obey the Word of God without interference. We cherish our freedoms and have you to thank for guarding our way of life.
As the church, we are taught to give honor where honor is due, to count our blessings, and to make proper use of all God’s benefits to us. Today we honor you. May our “thank you” be more than words, but be expressed a godly life. Thank you to all the US Veterans!

October 31, 1517 - The Word of God erupted through institutional barriers, causing the most wonderful wreck. A monk, named Martin Luther, was gripped by the Bible while translating from the original languages into German. As Luther turned the church’s eyes toward scripture, many rejoiced; many gnashed their teeth. If what the Bible said was true, then the whole institution of the church must change. This is where the term Protestant (or “protester”) comes from. Protestants stand with God’s Word even if that includes some bothersome truths.
For 500+ years there have been revivals of the same experience. Our Movement’s was in 1801 at Cane Ridge Revival – a call for simple Christianity with unity under the Gospel. “We are Christians only, but we are not the only Christians.” But time takes its toll and institutions inevitably form, in many ways contrary to the Word of God. The church is made up of fallible sinners saved by grace. The question is not “Have we erred?” The question is “Considering that we inevitably have erred, will we repent in accordance with the Word of God?”
Each anniversary of Luther’s call marks the freedom we have in Christ – the freedom to joyfully repent and obey God’s unchanging Word.
“A voice says, ‘Cry out.’
And I said, ‘What shall I cry?’
‘All people are like grass,
and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
‘The grass withers and the flowers fall,
because the breath of the Lord blows on them.
Surely the people are grass.
‘The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.’” (Isaiah 40:6-8)
