Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time ✝️
Reading 2 James 1:17-18, 21b-22, 27 ✝️📖
Dearest brothers and sisters:
All good giving and every perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of lights,
with whom there is no alteration or shadow caused by change.
He willed to give us birth by the word of truth
that we may be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
Humbly welcome the word that has been planted in you
and is able to save your souls.
Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves.
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this:
to care for orphans and widows in their affliction
and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

🙏Day 8.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Dear Saint Monica, you were once the mournful mother of a prodigal son. Your faithfulness to prayer brought you and your son so close to God that you are now with him in eternity. By your intercession and God’s grace, your son St. Augustine became a great and venerable Saint of the Church. Please take my request to God with the same fervor and persistence with which you prayed for your own son.
(Mention your intentions here)
With your needs, worries and anxieties, you threw yourself on the mercy and providence of God. Through sorrow and pain, you constantly devoted yourself to God. Pray for me, that I might join you in such a deep faith in God’s goodness and mercy.
Above all, dear Saint Monica, pray for me, that I may, like your son, turn from my sin and become a great saint for the glory of God.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time ✝️
Reading 1 Joshua 24:1-2a, 15-17, 18b ✝️📖
Joshua gathered together all the tribes of Israel at Shechem,
summoning their elders, their leaders,
their judges, and their officers.
When they stood in ranks before God,
Joshua addressed all the people:
“If it does not please you to serve the LORD,
decide today whom you will serve,
the gods your fathers served beyond the River
or the gods of the Amorites in whose country you are now dwelling.
As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”
But the people answered,
“Far be it from us to forsake the LORD
for the service of other gods.
For it was the LORD, our God,
who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt,
out of a state of slavery.
He performed those great miracles before our very eyes
and protected us along our entire journey
and among the peoples through whom we passed.
Therefore we also will serve the LORD, for he is our God.”

Funeral arrangements for Sister Charlotte Lujan. May she rest in peace.
Please join us in welcoming our new Parish Catechetical Leader, Monica Lopez-Cedillo!
My name is Monica Lopez-Cedillo. I attended St. Mary's Catholic School, volunteered and coordinated both elementary and high school religious education classes for several parishes for at least 33 years in Odessa. I currently teach Spanish and Religion classes in both the elementary and middle schools of Christ the KIng Diocesan School. I believe in ongoing Faith Formation whether in a formal setting like Loyola University (blessed to study for 2 years through an extension program) or through informal groups like Arise, Gathering, Cursillo Movement or Christ Life programs. Because my four young adult children and 7 grandchildren do not live in Lubbock, I am able to devote my time in serving both my husband, Gilbert and Christ the King Cathedral which have welcomed me since my arrival 3 years ago.
The Saint Francis Mission Sisters want to let all of our friends know that our beloved Sr. Charolette passed away early this morning. Please help us pray for the repose of her soul. May she rest in peace.
Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time ✝️
Gospel John 6:51-58 ✝️📖
Jesus said to the crowds:
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven;
whoever eats this bread will live forever;
and the bread that I will give
is my flesh for the life of the world.”
The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying,
“How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
Jesus said to them,
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood,
you do not have life within you.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood
has eternal life,
and I will raise him on the last day.
For my flesh is true food,
and my blood is true drink.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood
remains in me and I in him.
Just as the living Father sent me
and I have life because of the Father,
so also the one who feeds on me
will have life because of me.
This is the bread that came down from heaven.
Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died,
whoever eats this bread will live forever.”
