This week, Airmen with the Ohio National Guard's 123rd Air Control Squadron participated in exercise Northern Lightning alongside a member of the Estonian Defence Forces at Volk Field ANGB.

⚡️Northern Lightning⚡️ is a recurring exercise that emphasizes realistic air combat scenarios and provides a critical training ground.

Reminder: there will be an increase in flight activity over central Wisconsin August 9 and 12-16 due to the 2024 Northern Lightning exercise at Volk Field ANGB with F-35s, F-16s, and other military aircraft scheduled to train between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day.

In addition, the 115th Fighter Wing will be conducting limited early evening training flights out of Volk Field. Residents of central Wisconsin may see or hear F-35s taking off or landing until approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, August 12-14.

🌟The 2024 Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition is underway!🌟

Wisconsin National Guard infantryman, Spc. Tevin Kenton, is in Vermont competing in the five-day event composed of 14 competitors representing the regional winners. The competition tests Soldiers’ physical and mental prowess with a series of events with the overall winners receiving either Soldier of the Year or Non-commissioned Officer of the Year recognition.

Vermont National Guard | Wisconsin Army National Guard

On July 24th, K-9 units from the Madison Police Department, McFarland Police Department, Capitol Police, and UW-Madison Police Department practiced their skills at the Wisconsin National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing.

The wing’s facilities provided unique training for both the dogs and their handlers while creating an opportunity to collaborate with our security forces. 🐕 🙌

Last month, the Wisconsin Air National Guard's 128th Air Refueling Wing hosted a family night where wing members, friends, and family were able to get an exclusive, up-close look at the incredible aircraft that participated in the Milwaukee Air and Water Show. ✈

There will be an increase in flight activity over central Wisconsin August 5-9 and 12-16 due to the 2024 Northern Lightning exercise at Volk Field ANGB with F-35s, F-16s, and other military aircraft scheduled to train between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day.

Aircraft flying above 30,000 ft. are authorized by the FAA to operate at supersonic speeds within the Volk Military Operating Area, which may be audible at ground level.

Last month, members of the 115th Fighter Wing's security forces participated in heavy weapons qualifications training during the BUMBU FORGE exercise at Volk Field ANGB, honing their skills and ensuring readiness to protect our state and nation. 🌟

On July 26th, we showcased our battlefield capabilities in a demonstration at EAA AirVenture 2024 in Oshkosh! 🔥🔥🔥

This year's joint capabilities demonstration included F-35A Lightning II aircraft with the 115th Fighter Wing, UH-60 Black Hawks with the 1st Battalion 147th Aviation Regiment, a 128th Air Refueling Wing KC-135 Stratotanker, and members of the 1st Battalion 120th Field Artillery Regiment.

At EAA AirVenture 2024, Brig. Gen. David May, Wisconsin’s interim adjutant general, and representatives for various military occupations in the Wisconsin Air National Guard participated in a forum to discuss career opportunities. 🙌

While promoting opportunities with the guard through presentations and equipment displays we are also showcasing our F-35A Lightning IIs, KC-135 Stratotankers, UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, infantry, and artillery.

Yesterday, we participated in more panels at EAA AirVenture 2024 promoting career opportunities in the National Guard. 🙌

Wisconsin Air National Guard pilots spoke about their experiences and answered questions during the panel "Aim High: Pathways to Becoming an Air National Guard Pilot" and Black Hawk pilots with the Wisconsin Army National Guard joined other panelists for a WomenVenture presentation called “Exploring the Evolution of Women in Vertical Lift Industry."

115th Fighter Wing | 128th Air Refueling Wing

Seward, Alaska was the home base for Airmen with the 128th Air Refueling Wing Civil Engineer Squadron during their mission to renovate the Seward Military Resort from June 17th-29th. 🏔🛠

As part of the Seward Military Resort Renovation mission, Airmen from the 128th ARW CES accomplished various jobs on the resort project site to improve and enhance the experiences of service members and patrons during their excursions in Alaska.

Yesterday, Wisconsin Army National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk pilots and crew chiefs spoke in a panel called “Changes and Challenges: The First Women Military Helicopter Pilots.” Additionally, pilots with the 115th Fighter Wing and 128th Air Refueling Wing spoke in the panel “Aim High — Women of the Wisconsin Air National Guard.”

Women interested in learning about potential careers in military aviation will have more opportunities to hear from subject matter experts at this year’s EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin! 🙌

“This year we are expanding our support of WomenVenture into multiple days, and we are excited to share our stories again with the public,” said Capt. Meredith Porter, battalion training officer for the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 147th Aviation Regiment — a UH-60 Black Hawk unit — in Madison.

Staff Sgt. Howard Hawley of Wisconsin National Guard, holds the trophy he won at the Fifth Army Combat Rifle (M-16) Championships, Camp Robinson, Arkansas, Mar. 28-30, 1983. Hawley was first in the National Guard Novice classification of Aggregate Match #121 with a score of 583.

Last week, the Wisconsin Air National Guard supported an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Boss Lift!

These lifts allow employers an opportunity to observe their employees performing their military duties. This time, passengers boarded two 128th Air Refueling Wing KC-135s and observed the refueling of the 115th Fighter Wing’s F-35s and the 148th Fighter Wing’s F-16s. ✈️ Wisconsin ESGR

Last month, a Wisconsin Army National Guard 🚁 UH-60 Black Hawk crew trained alongside Jackson County Emergency Management, the Ho-Chunk Nation Emergency Management, and Trail Ambassadors for a search and rescue training exercise in Jackson County.

July 9th was the 106th Warrant Officer Birthday and the Wisconsin National Guard celebrated with a run/ruck/walk and a traditional cake-cutting ceremony! 🎂✨

Warrant officers are highly trained professionals who excel in a specific occupational field, serving as technical experts and advisors to commanders at all levels. Their vast knowledge and experience make them essential contributors to mission success across various Army branches.

Walking into an empty medical clinic and getting it up and running in under three hours is no easy task but a group of Soldiers, primarily from the Wisconsin National Guard's 135th Medical Company, who came to the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Fort Johnson, Louisiana, for a training rotation were up to the task.

A call for volunteers to staff the clinic at JRTC went out, and the medics, nurses, and physicians of the Wisconsin National Guard and surrounding states stepped up to take on the mission. 🩹🩺💪

Shoutout to the 128th Air Refueling Wing’s Communications Squadron for their dedication to the community! 🙌 They volunteered at Wood National Cemetery to gather, refurbish, and store over 17,000 miniature American flags, as well as fold and safely store over 150 full-sized American flags. 🇺🇸
