In 1885, Bernard Cigrund, a Wisconsin teacher, gave his class an assignment to discuss the importance of the flag. That teacher never stopped advocating for a day to honor the birth of our flag. His hard work paid off, when in 1916, President Wilson made June 14th, Flag Day.

I read that if we observed moments of silence for every victim of the Holocaust, we would be silent for over a decade. A third of European Jews were murdered over the course of a few years. For at minimum today, but really for always, let us hold them in our hearts and memories.
Today, we honor the lives lost in one of the darkest chapters of human history, the millions of lives that were targeted and murdered in the Holocaust.
The promise of begins with our hearts and minds, standing against hate and violence.
