Dickerson Middle School Foundation
DMS Foundation donations are tax deductible, and 100% of the funds raised go directly into key strate to attend intramurals, clubs and study/help sessions.
In today’s economy it is evident that individual schools have to step up in order to have the extra funding necessary to provide our students with the world class education they will need as a foundation for future success. For example, early morning drop off was in danger of being cut for lack of a Study Hall Monitor. Rather than losing this benefit, the Foundation chose to fund the Morning Study
Many thanks to our sponsor Boxed Bites 2 Go for donating these beautiful charcuterie cups at the DMSF Patron Drive High Donor event last week! They were delicious, and paired nicely with the generous donations from The Wine Shop, as well!
The Dickerson gym is looking amazing, thanks to a renovation funded by YOUR generous donations!

Did you know your Foundation donations fund programs like MI Write? Please donate today at www.dmsfoundation.com
Here's more about this wonderful resource from 8th grade ELA teacher Jennifer Attard:
Our Dickerson teachers are extremely thankful to the Foundation for their donation of the MI Write program. MI Write is a program that gives students instantaneous feedback on their writing skills. It has revolutionized our abilities to help students individually on their personal writing growth and help them become stronger writers because good writing comes from re-writing. Students are given on-the-spot, immediate feedback on any writing assignment. Students are able to submit drafts for feedback in the areas of: ideas, organization, word choice, voice, sentence fluency, and conventions. The feedback is individualized for each student's individual writing performance and provides lessons and skill tutorials to help improve writing and help them set personal goals and work to achieve them. MI Write helps teachers have meaningful writing-conferences with students since each student has multiple opportunities of feedback even before a teacher is able to see a writing piece.
Let the data speak! Since August 2023, Dickerson students have written 1,612 writing drafts with an average of 5.3 drafts per writing piece. Also, students have spent an average of 5 hours strengthening their writing with individualized lessons and skill building exercises.
Last school year, our students wrote 32,896 drafts to improve their writing using MI Write!

Thanks to your generous donations to the Foundation, we are able to annually provide our 8th graduates with an interactive real life simulation called Reality U, which helps youth acquire personal financial education to prepare them for their lives as adults! This program teaches students how their performance in school today can affect their future and meets several National Standards for Financial Literacy. Students will use rational decision-making and planning to set and implement financial goals, plus gain an understanding of the relationship between income and career preparation. We can’t wait for our 8th graders to have this experience!

Thanks to the support of the Dickerson Foundation, the science department is excited to add the WozED Science and STEM kits to our available resources available to support 3D science with a focus on inquiry and phenomena-based teaching. These kits will help us take our science curriculum to the next level. They are designed to encourage students to take a more hands-on approach to science. The 8th grade Science team is already working on determining how to integrate the kits into the curriculum to make a more well-rounded student focused experience in science. We have also included three STEM kits that can be incorporated across all curricula. These include app design, artificial intelligence, and animation. These tools are game-changers for our students and open the door to more opportunities for our students to see how science and STEM can connect to their interests and their future endeavors. It is because of the generous support of the Dickerson Foundation that we can give our students these experiences.
