Meet Treasurer Candidate Benjamin Chandra!
Ben is a senior in Aerospace Engineering!
“As SGA treasurer, I would like to push green initiatives such as installing more solar tables. I will also be working on continuing the Evans hall renovation project creating more room for clubs to meet and store their things. As Quality of Life Head, I worked on creating a larger pathway of radios around WFIT and I will be exploring expanding the project through the project fund. I will be attending steering meetings to offer more support to the committee heads and will be interested in getting them more involved in planning the larger projects voted on by the entirety of SGA.
In my role as chairman of SAFC, I would be focusing on getting clubs engaged in meetings. Just as the previous treasurer has done, I will email groups when their funding is being voted on. Where I will try to improve things is by reaching out to the new Club Representatives, introduced in the last SGA meeting. I hope in the cases where club treasures are too busy they will be able to act as liaisons.”
Meet Vice Presidential candidate Chelsea Lewis!
Chelsea is a sophomore in forensic psychology!
“My first goal for the 2022-2023 Student Government Association would be to increase reliability and communication. Holding the position of Secretary this previous year highlighted to me the importance of transparency between the organization and the rest of the student body, and as a result of being the direct point of contact, I have a thorough understanding of what the general population has questions and concerns about. I am in full support of increased Town Halls across campus in order to better address any students’ questions and concerns, and to facilitate a productive environment between faculty, staff, administration, and the student body. Additionally, I would like to focus on increased sustainability efforts throughout the year. Through Student Government, I was granted a place on the University’s Sustainability Council, and loved the discussions regarding what this organization has the capabilities of accomplishing to better the university for years to come. This being said, a major focus will be projects that are long term and lasting, including bringing back aspects of programming to encourage creating campus traditions.”
Meet presidential candidate Reese Johnson!
Reese is a senior majoring in Sustainability Studies!
“We have many goals we’d like to accomplish next year, most importantly we want to focus on communication and community. We want to improve communication between Students, Administration, and Departments by communicating through student emails and Student Government office hours so not only the student organizations are informed about what is happening in SGA but also the entire student body. Over the last few years, COVID-19 has taken a toll on the campus community, so we want to bring back the events that used to be hosted at Florida Tech like the Community Farmers Market and Pre-Sports Game Activities.
We also want to start several new projects. We want to improve sustainability on campus by adding water bottle fillers throughout campus, replacing waste disposal bins, adding new ones to areas without them like Panther Bay, and adding more Solar Tables around campus. We also want to focus on beautifying the campus. We want to make the campus nicer by trying to add new outdoor social areas and renovating student lounges like the ones in the Olin Quad. Lastly, we want to work on the addition of storage cages to Grissolm hall for student organizations to store their equipment.”
Meet Presidential Candidate Carolynne Garutti!
Carolynne is a graduate student working on her Masters in Biotechnology!
“When the COVID-19 pandemic first began, a lot of our students lost the sense of community that brings people to Florida Tech. Students lost the ability to communicate with one another whenever they needed to, and our university administration lost the ability to meet with students and hear about the wanted improvements for our campus. This loss created a disconnect within and across every entity at Florida Tech. Now that we are beginning to see the horizon of COVID-19, we are learning how to reform those connections again, we are learning that things will never be how they were pre-pandemic, and we are discovering new ways for our organizations and student body to thrive. This is why, if elected as the Student Government President, I will lead my team with the mindset of our commitment to C.O.M.M.U.N.I.T.Y.”
Meet the Candidates!
