Our AmeriCorps members have been putting in effort to wrap up this school year and gear up for the summer! How do they keep themselves ready to serve? By taking time to rest! How are you showing up for yourself? When was the last time you took time to rest?

“[Service is] Fulfilling, because anytime I serve with my fellow AmeriCorp members or with students, I always feel fulfilled knowing that I am able to help, support, and guide others as well as be helped, supported, and guided to reach our goals.” 2021 - 2022 BRIDGES AmeriCorps Alum, Anitra Higgins

This 2022-2023 school year our AmeriCorps team has sat with hundreds of 6th -12th grade students through workshops and listening sessions. Students have shared frustration with the current systems that are supposed to protect them. Too many have lost loved ones to gun violence. Our youth leaders at BRIDGES are working to affect change for their peers to create safer communities for all. What are you doing to break the cycle?

Food insecurity is a widespread concern all over the world. Our team served with Bridge Builders to help fight this systemic issue in their own community. A few times a month, youth participate in Church Health Nutrition Hub’s Meal Prep with Church Health , where they make hot meals for Church Health patients and learn some cooking fundamentals that they can use throughout their lives!

What qualities of a leader do you possess? A well-rounded leader is flexible and can display multiple of these qualities when they are needed. Our AmeriCorps members mentor our youth leaders to help them develop these qualities and facilitate their growth into community advocates.

Even though February is over, it does not mean you have to stop practicing self-love! Our AmeriCorps service members led a workshop for our youth all about practicing self-love all year round. During this workshop, the students compiled a list of songs that make them feel great about themselves. Give it a listen!
