Eddie Jones, FAIA, Jones Studio, Tempe, AZ, was our guest lecturer on Thursday followed by a special chat in the Collaboration Studio with AIAS members on Friday. Eddie shared his thoughts on design and design inspiration and focused on a number of his projects from residential to large-scale border land ports for the federal government.
We were pleased to welcome Bradley Wilford, RKA Construction, LLC, Memphis, as a guest lecturer last week. Bradley shared his management experiences with Crosstown Concourse and his current position as COO with RKA.
The Architecture Scholars Institute, formerly Discovering Architecture + Design, is a college-preparatory and portfolio-building experience for 9th-12th graders who are interested in learning more about designing the built environment and the professions of architecture and interior design. The Architecture Scholars Institute is sponsored by the Department of Architecture in partnership with AIA Memphis, a chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
The 2021 AIA Tennessee Conference on Architecture will be held virtually over the course of three days - August 25th through August 27th. Volunteers across the state are hard at work developing an outstanding schedule for you!
Our 2021 Conference theme, "The PRICE of Change" will key in on the: P.andemic | R.acial I.nequity | C.limate | E.conomy. Through interactive breakout sessions, workshops, virtual tours, and dynamic speakers, we'll tackle these topics and challenge each conference attendee to ask, "what PRICE am I willing to pay to become a change agent in my profession and to society holistically?"

Congratulations to AIA Memphis and the UofM chapter of AIAS on receiving the first ever AIAS National Outstanding AIA Component Honor Award presented last month at the 2017 AIAS Forum in Austin, TX!
Congratulations also to Holly-Lynn Tedder who received the AIAS Fourth Year Design Excellence Honorable Mention Award for work completed last spring!
Representing the team were: (l to r) Jaimie Monger (Second Year BFA), Emon Safdari (Fourth Year BFA), Brock Terwilleger (Second Year BFA), Holly-Lynn Tedder (First Year M.Arch), Rafael Rico (Fourth Year BFA), Heather Koury (AIA Memphis Executive Director), and Antonio Tirado (Second Year M.Arch).
