Its Healthy Vision Month!
This is important for seniors because age-related changes in vision are common and can significantly impact their quality of life. By raising awareness and promoting preventive measures, this observance encourages seniors to prioritize their eye health. Regular eye exams can help detect and manage conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration, which are more prevalent among older adults. Taking care of their vision enables seniors to maintain independence, engage in daily activities, and enjoy an active and fulfilling lifestyle as they age.
This month we'll be sharing what you can do to protect your vision! Follow us for more!
Wishing you a day filled with joy and cherished moments with loved ones. Stay safe and enjoy the festivities!
Mental health is crucial for caregivers because it directly impacts their ability to provide quality care and support to others. Caregiving can be physically and emotionally demanding, often leading to stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue. Taking care of one's mental well-being is essential for maintaining resilience, managing stress, and sustaining the necessary energy and compassion required in caregiving roles.

Honoring the Sacrifice, Caring for the Heroes. This Memorial Day, we salute the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom. We are privileged to care for our nation's veterans and their families, ensuring their well-being and comfort. Today and every day, we remember and appreciate their service. 🇺🇸
Seniors’ bodies don’t cope as well with heat as younger people’s bodies do, making them more vulnerable to all sorts of heat-related illnesses. With Spring quickly approaching, we’re shining a light on the potential hazards of the hotter months and discussing what older adults can do to protect themselves.
Seniors are vulnerable to heat for multiple reasons. The first is that as we age, our body’s ability to sweat and regulate our body temperature decreases. Some elderly people also have chronic health conditions that affect their ability to cope successfully with heat. Heart, lung, and kidney diseases increase your risk of heat-related illnesses.
Many seniors don’t experience the urge to drink as frequently, which can cause them to forget to hydrate. This may lead to dehydration or more heat-related severe illnesses if not caught and addressed early.

Aging is what we make it. For some, the limited mobility and reduced performance that come with age sound intimidating, but there are steps you can take to help you age gracefully. To set yourself on the right track, taking care of your well-being is best started sooner rather than later.
Self-care is critical for seniors looking to develop the skills necessary to adapt to whatever old age brings. Maintaining independence, preventing diseases, and improving the overall quality of being — all factor into living longer and better.

If you are a caregiver, you are more vulnerable to adverse effects on your health. The Rosalynn Carter Institute (RCI) for Caregivers, named after the former First Lady of the United States and founder, makes a case that the effects of caregiving are so profound that it should be addressed as a public health issue like smoking and obesity.
Caregivers are more likely to experience poorer health and higher stress than non-caregivers. There is even a direct relationship between the caregiver’s well-being and the loved one’s well-being. So as we are instructed on flights before take-off we must secure our oxygen mask before attempting to help those around us.

This morning, The Dallas Morning News published a column, written by none other than our own John David Ball, CEO, laying out the need for Texas to invest more in the Community Care Program so our dedicated caregivers can finally receive fair wages — and continue to support older adults and people with disabilities.
“We have a moral and economic obligation to provide a livable wage to our hardworking and compassionate community attendants. If we don’t, our older adults will be left with only one option — a lower quality of life at a much higher price to the state and its taxpayers.” - John David Ball

A caregiver’s daily routine is packed with activities that range from caring for the elderly to keeping the house clean. Keeping the environment safe is a huge task, and when it comes to taking care of their diet, many caregivers end up neglecting themselves. What they need are quick meal prep ideas to make their life easier.
And if you are a caregiver who is caring for an elderly relative or an older individual, you may have been given the task of preparing meals for them as well. Whatever a scenario or situation is, making elaborate and time-consuming dishes becomes complicated and stressful. When time is of the essence, we all want to make something quick but nutritious.
