As the RNC 2024 in Milwaukee officially comes to an end, the MMUA would like to thank all of the motor officers from across Wisconsin and the non-motor officers from across the country for helping us our goal of keeping dignitaries and visitors safe. A special thank you to those who donated food, beverages, or other ways to super the motor officers this week. We owe our success to you, too!
If you have any photos of motor officers throughout the RNC, please send them to us at [email protected] so we can share the hard work of our officers with everybody! Ride safe!

It is with profound sadness that I must inform the community of the passing of former Chief of Police, Pete Hoell. It was less than five years ago that I composed a post celebrating his retirement. Needless to say, we are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of our former leader, and a man that is still commonly referred to as “Chief”.
Chief Hoell served his entire 30 plus year career with the Germantown Police Department. His first day was April 17th, 1989. He actually missed his college graduation to begin his undercover assignment with the Washington County Metro Drug Unit. He worked this position full-time his first year, then served in a part time roll for many years as he worked as a patrol officer with the Germantown Police Department. He gained a vast amount of experience in that role that benefited him immensely throughout his career.
Chief Hoell rose through the ranks quickly and before his five-year anniversary had attained the rank of patrol sergeant. Chief Hoell was regarded as someone who would do what the department needed. Prior to his promotion he had served as a field training officer for new recruits. Once promoted he learned he was the last certified field trainer in the department and was tasked with training one more recruit. As eager as he was to start his new role as a sergeant, he approached his last assignment as a field trainer with the same passion and commitment that he approached any task assigned to him.
Within a year he was assigned to the administrative sergeant position. He was promoted to Lieutenant shortly after that. Ultimately, he achieved the rank of Police Chief, a goal he had set for himself at the beginning of his career. He held that position for over 16 years. I believe the average tenure for a police chief in the state of Wisconsin is between 5-7 years. You can imagine the strength necessary to serve in that position for 16 years. Even the strongest are certain to feel a considerable burden throughout those years. Chief Hoell conducted himself admirably and served with distinction.
Chief Hoell believed in transparency and used social media to ensure the public was well informed regarding law enforcement matters. This is from his last official post as the Germantown Chief:
"It has been an absolute pleasure communicating with all of you on this page. I tried to keep it informative, while every now and then having a little fun. I also attempted to humanize the badge and break down barriers. What I mean by breaking down barriers is creating good communication with the public we serve. As a hypothetical explanation, think about going to a gathering where you don’t know anyone in the room. For a lot of people, it may be a little uncomfortable not knowing anyone, communication may be a bit challenging. Now think about going to a gathering where the room is filled with friends and family. Communication is obviously more comfortable, and you feel more at ease."
Chief Hoell was a great boss and a caring friend. In law enforcement a Cop’s Cop is someone who watches out for his officers, has their back, and gives them the support they need to do their job. Pete was a Cop’s Cop. His leadership style emphasized accountability, where expectations were made clear. He was able to measure this with compassion and a genuine concern for his people. Too often the burdens of this job are felt long after retirement and especially by those who gave so much.
I pray God comfort family and friends with the assurance that those burdens are gone and our friend and loved one is at peace.
This picture speaks volumes. Please think of our Veterans and furry friends.
Sending prayers

Today, Thursday, June 20, 2024, at approximately 2:23 p.m., Milwaukee Police officers attempted to conduct a felony stop at N.17th Street and W. Vliet Street. The vehicle stopped was wanted in connection to an attempted armed robbery carjacking that occurred on the 500 block of N. Broadway. The vehicle was also wanted in connection to an armed robbery carjacking that occurred earlier in the day in the 500 block of N. Jefferson Street.
The pursuit ended when the driver of the vehicle moved into the construction lane on I-43 near W. Vienna Avenue and was blocked by the construction and a cement truck. Several construction workers were working in this space during the incident.
MPD officers approached the vehicle, gave several commands to stop the vehicle and commanded the suspects to get out of the vehicle. The suspect driver reversed the vehicle striking a marked squad car. The suspect driver drove forward and then reversed the vehicle. An officer was located behind the vehicle. At this time, another officer discharged his firearm into the vehicle subsequently striking two suspects. A total of six suspects were in the vehicle.
The suspect vehicle was determined to be a stolen auto and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle.
The gunshot-injured suspects are an 18-year-old Milwaukee female who has life-threatening injuries and a 17-year-old Milwaukee male who has serious injuries. We are aware that the 18-year-old female was pregnant and unfortunately the baby did not survive. These suspects were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
The other suspects are a 15-year-old female, a 16-year-old male a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old female. These suspects were also transported to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.
All the suspects were arrested. Criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. There were no other reported injuries.
The officer involved in this incident is a 25-year-old male with over 4 years of service. He will be placed on administrative duty as is routine in an officer involved shooting.
The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be investigating this incident. The West Allis Police Department will be the lead law enforcement agency in this investigation.
This is a fluid and ongoing investigation.
A community briefing discussing this incident will be released in the future. Press Release online at:https://mkepdpio.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Press-Release-June-20-2024-MPD-Officer-Involved-Shooting.pdf
Great advice Franklin Police Department
The Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) highlights a recent success that showcases how we are and can be “better together” – MPD is grateful for our partners at the Havenwoods BID who worked with MPD on information received from residents about drug activity in their community. Based upon the information shared, MPD District Four Violent Crime Reduction Team (VCRT) conducted a search warrant in May recovering several illegal fi****ms (13) from two felony offenders, as well as recovering illegal narcotics. MPD cannot do our work alone and rely on everyone to assist in public safety. We are grateful for community partners like Havenwoods, and all of the residents that work with us to keep our community safe from harm. Better together!
